3 way liquid splitters / molten iron

Is there someone who can explain me how the 3 way splitters work?
I tried to put them in my furnace lines so I can divide the molten iron over de casting machines. The molten iron goes into the splitters, but it won't come out on the other side.

you have to have an even draw on every output. that thing is an furnace that takes fluid in and puts fluid out in three boxes. it may be that it is broken at the moment as the devs renamed the fluid output box.

I suspect that it is in fact broken, then, because when I had one hooked up (tank -> splitter -> 3 tanks beside a rail station), none of the tanks was getting a single drop; they were all staying empty.
