Inserter drains the supply?!

Post by Cassiopeia »

Hello,
i've checked the wiki, i've tried to find an answer in the forum, the FAQ and other but couldnt find an answer.
Playing on a mac, loaded from steam, current version.

Regardless of what type of game i start, like Tutorial, campaign, free game etc. My inserter feeds from the power supply (ie. coal or wood) from my burner mining drill. I've tried to replace both the drill and the burner inserter, but i'm kinda lost.

The only place and level it did work, was tutorial lvl1, before the critters arrived. A soon as i started after the evacuation, the abilities of my inverters and drills were chopped.

Any help / suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Cas

You don't need inserter to extract items from mining drills, they output directly in front of them. You should plonk a chest or a few belts to gather whatever you're mining.

If you hit ALT, a yellow arrow will appear over the output of your mining drills as a visual aid. (A lot of players play with ALT permanently enabled.)

You can rotate mining drills, which puts the output in a different location.

Aside from chests and belts, you can also feed directly into furnaces or other burner mining drills.

Here are some possible burner configurations for coal that work by themselves:

The first one also works with more miners in the chain. I use that for coal for 6 or 8 drills. And then go back every now and then to manually take the coal.

For smelting I feed burner miners directly into the furnaces and feed them coal by hand. Usually that's enough for the early game. If you want to automate the burner phase there are options too:

But you get electric miners very soon. Just output directly to belts:
