Stuck Level 2 New Hope

So I can get to where I complete all the research needed for the trains...
then though you need x of amount of materials...
something like:
3000 copper plates
3000 iron plates
1500 steel plates....

So on and so forth...

Unfortunately this is when I run out of iron ore near the area....
Is this when you are supposed to start using trains?

What am I missing....

I thought the campaign was sort of a how to more than a figure it out after the first missions.

Any help appreciated

Yes. The game instructs you to research the rail system so that you can build trains, and take advantage of the iron mine. I recommend you build a train consisting of 2 engines, facing either way, and 2 wagons. If you don't have the materials to repair the rail grid to the iron mine (to the north) then scavenge rails from the tracks going to the copper mine (south). Big poles as well if you haven't restored the power grid. Be aware that once you restore the mine, it'll start to pollute and the biters around the mine will start to attack it. Grab some walls and extra turrets to keep it safe.
