I am playing on old school difficulty for this mission and I cant seem to stay alive. I have taken 3 different approaches: 1. Try to rush up the tech tree to plastics while spending as little as possible on defense. This failed miserably. 2 tech up my defenses and delay my plastics a bit. This worked a bit better; I had 4 layer wall with ~20 gun turrets + the laser turrets from the crash site + the orbs from the crash sites + rockets + grenades. I was microing like it was a game of Starcraft, but still got overrun by in the end by behemoth biter, just as I was getting my plastic out. AND 3. In desperation I went to the crash site right away at the start, looted it and then turret pushed the closest two biter bases. I was able to take them out, but it took up all my ammo and I was left with nothing to defend myself with from the larger bases.
Anyone have any advise for this mission? Am I missing the correct strategy, or am I just not executing?

Hmmm, I can't remember it being difficult when I played on oldschool, but then again I like to play on death worlds (max biters).
Gun turrets can't protect you from the Behemoths unless you use AP ammo, and AP ammo is very expensive, so the thing to do is to get a lot of laser turrets (I guess you'd have to say an unreasonable number of them) and put a lot of walls in front of them (like 5 layers of walls, more is better, keep filling any gaps they chew in the walls), also get the laser turret upgrades because they are super useful.
Also all the nests on the campaign worlds are vulnerable to laser turret rushing, just wipe them out with laser turrets then complete the objectives at your leisure. For the last level you need a decent amount of steam generation (perhaps 40-80MW) and some laser turret upgrades to pull off a successful invasion of the biters. It's probably not the easiest way to win though especially if you aren't well versed in laser turret sieging large nests (i.e. death world levels).

Yeah I was using AP ammo. The first thing I did was set up 3 factories to pump it out. My wall was 4 units thick and I was constantly rebuilding it (even during battle). I dont think I can research laser turrets fast enough to build up that "unreasonable amount." I like the idea of laser turret pushing, Ill give that a try. And if it doesnt work, I guess I'll just have to get better at the gameBlakeMW wrote:Hmmm, I can't remember it being difficult when I played on oldschool, but then again I like to play on death worlds (max biters).
