Four wide belt mixer

Post by qwe85 »

Hi,

I'm about to build my biggest factory yet and for it I would to try the for my new concept of a main bus.
Unlike so many others I like to have copper and iron on the same belt when I split off, but I find it quite hard to make a four belt wide mixer.

You can see my best attempt below.
Does anyone have any ideas for improvements or perhaps a simpler way of doing it without losing speed or compression?
Space it not an issue.

*Edit
As it so often happens as soon as I ask for help I come up with something better.
I however still think some can be improved

If you want something a bit more compact you could go with this:

I'm not an expert on belt mechanics, so check it for compression etc!

Sweet. I'm not really looking for anything specific just good ways of doing something I myself have never done before.

I have tested the design and there is a little bit of compression lose about 1/20.
The reason is that the input from the same side is favoring the same side of the belt. When that side gets staved it pull of the other side which transfers the little space between the two belt lanes from the input belt to the output belt.

I get a fair bit of mileage out of this design, in either orientation.

Edit: Although the output lanes are mirrored, so if you're relying on each item being on a specific side, you'll need to flip one of the output belts afterwards.

I don't think I ever previously bothered to try and use that design concept in a larger mixer, but it seems like there's some space efficiency improvements to be had. Also, where did the last hour of my life just go?
