Way to see picture-in-picture of an area?

The chat log dropped this super cool picture-in-picture on me. This is such a cool thing, is there a way to see areas like this with a quick hover and no sub-menus, like the link in this chat message did?

You can pin space platform hubs and other players. They will get a button under the minimap. You get a picture-in-picture for players, but not platforms, if you just hover your cursor over the pin. If you hit the "edit" button on a platform's pin, it will give you a picture-in-picture. It's almost what you're looking for.
