playing the latest alpha... and I haven't played in a few months... got interested again... anyway.. I've noticed this with a few things.. but specifically I have a pump in the water... 13 boilers and 10 steam engines in series... I put coal in the boilers.. they work for like a few seconds and then quit... even though they have 49 coal sitting in them.... must be something I just don't remember.!

If you don't use the electricity from the steam engines, then the boilers will shut down until it's used.
I have no idea what I'm doing.

When all of this doesn't help, a couple of screenshots (your pump/boiler/steam engine set-up e.g.) might give someone here a clue on what went wrong.
