Does the map have an edge?

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

Does the map have an edge?

Post by bll »

Has anyone found the edge of the map?
I'm currently about a 3.5 minute train run south of my base (about 1.5 rocket fuel canisters), and haven't found the edge yet.
Is there one, or does the map just keep growing in the direction I go?

You can't teleport in vanilla(well, only if through the command line with the loss of all achievements%), but with mods it's unsportsmanlike and boring.
There are exactly 1,000,000 cells from the spawn point with coordinates 0,0 in any direction

here is a picture from my other post, a little different, but the general meaning should be clear

I don't know how many tiles I have travelled already, but it seems like too far to go for a lot of work. If there weren't so many aliens in the way, I might consider doing it. But poking holes through the alien bases is a lot of work. Now I have a railroad to nowhere : ) .

Well it's easy to check the coordinates.

I don't think you've gone far.
For 4 years I have not passed half of the planned path)
But at the same time, many, many millions of biters and spitters were killed and many thousands were built :) kilometers of railways :)

My parking station in my home base is at: -141, -192.
And the station at the end of the sourthern line is at: 2194, 13456.

You are right, not far at all. Yikes.
Too many biters and spitters to deal with.
I suppose I could make an army of spidertrons ( I have 3 ).

I only have one spidertron with me at all times. The remaining 17 are used as railway workers, repairing the railway line and rescuing stuck railway trains.
I mainly shoot the biter and the spitter with artillery trains, then I finish them off with lasers.
But I have biter respawn enabled by default, so the railway road has to be constantly protected throughout, and for this you have to produce billions of art shells and gigawatts of electricity :)
