All my robots on nauvis died while im away at vulcanus
All my robots on nauvis died while im away at vulcanus
I'm deploying my first Vulcanus base and while away all my robots died in my main base in Nauvis.
I have an idea of why that happened, some were dying because they were traversing hostile airspace due to a suboptimal base perimeter...
The funny thing is that I had fully functional robot factories supplying provider chests serving the logistic network. And currently there are at least like 100 logistic+construction bots stored and inside the logistic network coverage...

Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
I hope you have informed all of their next-of-kin and told them, that this would happen to them too if they don't start working harder!
Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
I find the outcome unexpected. My perception is that at no point the robot casualties rate exceeded the bot production rate... Also every time I checked the bot provisioning chests were full.
I was hoping there was a known bug that may be involved in this happening or maybe to learn something new about logistic networks.
What are the odds that a major event anihilated all bots at once? Maybe the biters developed a virus?
Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
Bots cannot launch from chests - when there, they are no different from any other item. If you want them to launch and do stuff, you'll need an inserter from the chest into a roboport. (Can use wires to only insert if the number of free robots in the network is low btw, I tend to do this.)

Are you using any mods or are you playing vanilla expansion?
How many bots did you have?

You can also put ghost-bots in a roboport, but a construction bot will need to deliver it (and no, a bot can't deliver itself).samr85 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:21 pm Bots cannot launch from chests - when there, they are no different from any other item. And you can use the logistics request in a roboport (I'm not sure if this will request those in chests, or only those in other roboports).
The above three options (inserters ghost-bots, and logistic request) also apply to tanks/spidertrons with a personal roboport.
Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
No mods at all.
I had 10conbot 10logbot log request set in almost all roboports
I didn't look at the total bot numbers, in total there would be like between 200 and 300 when all was running ok.

You can look at the statistics on the kill tab for your bots.
Pony/Furfag avatar? Opinion discarded.
Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
A logistic bot can deliver bots as any other items in the logistic network from provider/storage chests to a requesting roboport, right?samr85 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:21 pm Bots cannot launch from chests - when there, they are no different from any other item. You can't really miss hundreds of your bots being destroyed without leaving the game running AFK for quite some time. For both types of bots it is possible that they were destroyed by worms. Additionally, constructions bots are commonly destroyed by lingering fire caused by flamethrower turrets.
Just follow the advice people have posted here already to make sure you always have bots in your network. It can be done with a simple setup just like this, where the factory is putting the bots directly into the roboports: And while you're off doing your thing on other planets i recommend placing some programmable speakers to notify you of things that are important to keep your factory running.
Re: All my robots on nautilus died while im away at vulcanus
The tooltip for the "Robot requests" section in the roboport specifies that the robots requested will only be ones that are stationed in other roboports. So unless I'm missing something, I don't think you can use logistics robots to directly add fresh bots to your network.
I'd completely missed that you could do IsaacOscar's suggestion, but I think that's still only manual, and can't be used to continuously fill the network.IsaacOscar wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:33 pm You can also put ghost-bots in a roboport, but a construction bot will need to deliver it (and no, a bot can't deliver itself).
Re: All my robots on nauvis died while im away at vulcanus
Thanks for all your tips, my main mistake was asuming that bots could carry itemized bots from chests to roboports which is not the case. I did try the robot ghost tip but was useless in my case. I had to go back to nauvis to fix things and setting a roboport to be fed bots manually by an inserter.
