[0.11.4][cube] Transport belt madness still unplayable

Post by Mike Rosoft »

Follow-up to this report.

I have upgraded the game and the scenario pack to the most recent version, but "Transport belt madness" still doesn't work. It still starts with an empty inventory; on the top of it, when I click the "start level" button anyway, the game crashes.

Base mod is 0.11.4, scenario pack is 0.11.3. My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

Hi, thanks for the report. The bug was mostly unrelated to the linked one, a result of one of the recent testability changes. It is fixed for 0.11.5

In 0.11.5 the game no longer crashes, but it still starts with an empty inventory, making the mission unplayable.

There is error in the matrix, because I have items in my inventory when I start the level :)

Now I tried to start "Tight spot" which used to work, but it fails to load with an error: "Couldn't read from input file. File could be corrupted." What gives?

On your advice, I had deleted the mod directory, forcing the game to reinstall it (see this thread). Is it relevant that I deleted the mod directory from "c:\Users\Honza\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\mods\" , but the directory is now empty save for the mod-list.json file, and the mod now seems to be located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Factorio\data\scenario-pack" ? "C:\Program Files (x86)\Factorio\data\" now contains two additional directories: "core" and "base".

I tried removing the mods.json file; the game re-created it with an extra entry:

Code: Select all

{
    "mods": [
        {
            "name": "base",
            "enabled": "true"
        },
        {
            "name": "base",
            "enabled": "true"
        },
        {
            "name": "scenario-pack",
            "enabled": "true"
        }
    ]
}
That doesn't look right, does it?

Now I tried completely uninstalling the game, manually deleting all leftover files except the game saves, and reinstalling it from files from your website.

The instructions on your website say: "Scenario pack is distributed as a mod. If you are using the Factorio auto updater then it should be downloaded for you automatically. Otherwise the way you install it is by downloading the zip archive and unpacking it into your mods directory." So I extracted the mod to c:\Users\Honza\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\mods\ - on startup, the application crashed.

Code: Select all

0334.316867  Info Logger.cpp:147: 2014:12:08 21:10:45; Factorio 0.11.5 (Build 12720, win32)
0338.183895 Error Util.cpp:37: Filename of mod C:/Users\Honza\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\mods\scenario-pack doesn't match the expected scenario-pack_0.11.3 (case sensitive!)
So I moved the scenario pack to c:\Program Files (x86)\Factorio\data\. (The download instructions need to be updated.) The game still exhibits the bugs I had reported: transport belt madness is unplayable due to an empty inventory, and tight spot crashes on startup.

1344.244151  Info GlobalContext.cpp:472: Goodbye
I suspect that one part of the game requires the scenario pack mod to be in the "program files\data" directory, while another expects it to be located in the "application data\mods" directory. This is also the reason for the crash on automatic update.

On 0.11.5, I try a new game and I have my inventory.
I'm on windows 7, with auto-update .

So I tried deleting the scenario pack directory once again, and tried to have the game's automatic updates to re-install it. Nope, still doesn't work.

I wonder about the error in the "tight spot" scenario: "Couldn't read from input file. File could be corrupted." The log doesn't identify exactly *which* file can't be read and may be corrupted - could the next version of the game provide more details here?

Ok, I checked the tight spot, and it was really unloadable, so I fixed it (as well as some needed script changes).

The fixed scenario pack will be released along the 0.11.6 update (on thursday).

I have another problem: the inserters (at the output/red chests) don't take the materials; are doing just nothing --> unplayable
