Re: [Experiment] Unloading 4 compressed blue belts per wagon.

- 1-belt balancers (balance left/right lanes of a belt) help to draw equally from both sides of a belt. There are well known standard designs that do it. I typically place these for every belt, between the bus and the factory bays (as a matter of fact I reserve a full chunk between the bus and the ...

Re: [Experiment] Unloading 4 compressed blue belts per wagon.

Do underground belts still have a buffering effect making the inserters drop faster? Nope, that was deliberately removed from the game. - The result is that the 3-5 second unload ends up stretching to 10, 20, 30 seconds and more... and as belts empty, your unload capacity drops to less than 4 satur...

Re: [0.13-0.15] [Library]Factorio Standard Library Project 0.8.0

Hey, I see there's quite some active development on this, but no release for some time now. Right now the parts I'm interested in (table and string helpers) are of course usable, but still, I'd feel much better using a somewhat recent release instead of a git checkout. :) Hey, sorry for the extende...

Re: Circuit Network Information 2.0 - Open Your World

Hey, I think this is a brilliant idea and simple. Unfortunately, I think it's too simple: it still doesn't enable us to (easily) track flows of items through a factory because these types of entities are prone to nom-ing up your items and materializing new items. Therefore I would say, if this is do...

Re: [kovarex] [0.16.46] Combinator hitbox in horizontal orientation

Well, generally, when clicking things in factorio, the base of the object is the relevant and the selection box is the thing that should be taken into account when clicking. I guess the problem here is that the hitbox fills the tile pretty much completely, because combinators are tile-hogs? iow, if...

[kovarex] [0.16.46] Combinator hitbox in horizontal orientation

The horizontally oriented combinator hitbox seems misaligned, lately, with the combinator's visual position such that the (graphical) connection points for either the upper-most red or green wire (depending on whether the combinator is pointed left-to-right or right-to-left) extends beyond the hitbo...

Re: Entire computer hard crashes when out of RAM

Recently saw this: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=F1-2017-Low-NV-vRAM-Fix ... agreed that running out of memory without swap is an unavoidable GIGO situation, but I wonder if, even so, there is some underlying framework issue in portable nvidia driver code? Personally I'm mo...

Re: Seperate train plans from trains

+1. This does not seem too terribly difficult (no doubt, the devil's in the details, but it's clearly not insurmountable as it could simply be layered on top of the existing implementation). It's also clearly something the engineer would want at his disposal after he went to all the trouble to desig...

https://giant.gfycat.com/MatureGleefulIcelandichorse.webm @mrvn: I think you forgot about stackers, and pace a typo (busy % is unload time / ( unload load time + interarrival) what you gave is exactly what I'm calculating. No kidding... indeed it would seem this trick alone provides enough "ju...

cut-paste annoyance

Perhaps there is some really good reason things mustn't work this way but I can't think of it offhand: When pressing "ctrl-a" to "select all" in a text edit control, (the one that's bugging me happens to be the constant value in combinators although I presume this happens everywh...

Re: Friday Facts #241 - New player experience

I think Civ solved the tutoring problem perfectly, and there's no need for Factorio to reinvent the wheel with all these complicated scripts... For example, to prepare the new player for the eventuality of combat, just have a modal "Disembodied Military Advisor Lady" dialog-box pop up, a f...

linux: large hardware cursor obscures flying text(?)

Sorry but this may be a confusing bug report as (a) I probably have the wrong terminology and (b) I can't figure out how to take a screen-shot of the problem, as when I do the cursor is not rendered. The best example of what I am talking about is when I am trying to select a blueprint from a bluepri...

Re: Friday Facts #235 - 0.16 stable

Aeternus beat me to my main comment: it's very, very plausible that some kind of sandboxing or virus... er, anti-virus.... they are kind of the same thing aren't they? ... is at fault for the jump outside of factorio. These are, as you may know, analogous to LD_PRELOAD sandboxes on linux and interpo...

Re: Version 0.16.32

Also there is a standard for floating point numbers that dictate strict rounding rules and allow you to convert to decimal and back without any loss of precision. You just have to do it right and not simply cut of floats after 5 digits. Is there? I don't know if factorio really uses bare C++ floati...
