From my testing: You get 1 fish/ science pack. If you "autolaunch with cargo" to automate production of fish, then you only get 12 (or whatever a single inserter can deliver) science packs inserted since the rocket doesn't wait for more to be delivered. ...

Can confirm that it works in vanilla. I accidentally left an inserter hanging over the water when I ran out of landfill. Came back and finished my blueprint only to find that that inserter was not working because it was holding a fish!

Why not inserter.fish_catching = false? Modders must understand what is it, much better without any googling.

We already tried to place multiple stack-inserters around the rocket to insert the fish, but the stack inserters keep holding the fish except one who placed it. We always only manage ...
