You can make "signs" on the map by putting down a train stop and naming it.
I would like some sort of sign that allows us to label the map and not the current workaround of a train stop.

There is talk amungst the devs about adding the ability to manipulate water, cross it, etc, although it will probably not be implemented any time soon.

Agreed. As long as you can hit the "Yeah, I meant to do this" button with enter, it should not be too much of a problem.

I support having the camera centered in front of cars and trains, although it might be a little bit nauseating.

I think having the character always in the middle of the screen adds some character to the game that a lot of other games lack.

This is probably a dumb question, but have you tried re-starting your laptop and opening factorio with no programs running in the background? Also, when you are experiencing the lag,press ctrl+shift+esc to open the task manager, and see if any program is taking up A. a lot of processing power or B. ...
