Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Honestly, guys, I am sick to continue seeing "there is no much use for light oil". Feels like you don't see the fundamental design flaw here, just accepting things presented as they are in a game and you are fine with those, used to. Hello, are we living on the same planet? Can I humbly re...

manual building&deconstruction of tanks (which is essentially a pollution-free flare stack, isn't it?) ;) Not with NauvisDay. :P https://i.imgur.com/rAGfCA1.jpg Ha! Nice. Never tried though. Let me guess: to get rid of it, you blow the spill with a rocket launcher, right? Also, this discussion ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
[...] 3) Again the same with boilers. Is it possible to rework the gas boilers so it can consume all liquid fuels including even crude oils and the solid-type fuels like coal, SF, RF as well? If so, just replace the vanilla boilers with those unified multipurpose things. Solid fuels, no. Must be on...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Modders tend to do so too often, and the result satisfies only them alone in the end. :P Remember that you creating mod for a large set of people I can't speak for all modders, but some of us do actually create the mods for ourselves, then decide to share it with the large set of people. Oh, it exp...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Well, I like mods that add least possible new things and change vanilla in a direction of improvement rather than introducing anything new. Therefore, I suggest the following: 1) Replace "natural gas" with vanilla's PG, remove methane branch and recipes. Simplicity. Occam's way. I'll thin...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
I think it's only possible for them to take either fluid or solids, not both, and if you don't want to be able to put water into a fluid fired boiler, then the filters only allow for 1 fluid type. They never implemented a fluids = {} property citing ups reasons (edit: https://forums.factorio.com/vi...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Anyway. Generally, I expected to see the simplified version like "Natural gas" = "vanilla petroleum gas". Yes, that's what I remember us talking about before. But I went a different direction with it, for now... it's just a toy at the moment, based loosely on real-world ratios. ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Adamo, the gas boiler. Not unlocked. I wonder to see how it works. I'm not sure what you're saying. It should get unlocked with fluid handling. It works essentially the same as a normal boiler, except you will cut your pollution in half if you use natural gas or methane. Tried in the late game wher...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Here's a start. If you try it, let me know what you think. It will still need more balancing and I'll figure out how to improve some of the icons. https://mods.factorio.com/mod/adamo-carbon You forget to note in the description that a new game should be started since the mod adds new type of resour...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
I'm just finishing up balancing the natural gas mod right now. I'll post it in a sec so we can have something shiny to play with, instead of worrying about all these changes. Well, if you are really want to make oil great (+realistic), then there is an ultimate solution the V will never accept - a ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
#1 is a complete nonstarter - it is now extracting a refined product from the ground; you might as well have "plastic ore" and "sulfuric acid wells" at that point. Um, where does the PG comes from in reality then?.. 0.o It is one of many products of refining crude oil. Also: htt...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
To what degree the multiple outputs are to be present or not could be a variable depending on the specifics of the solution IMO. The FFF changes are removing the multiple outputs completely, and only reintroduces them when a good long-term solution exists (with AOP and cracking), but as you have se...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Making sulfur from heavy oil instead of gas would work, and I can see it would make a lot more sense chemically, but heavy oil production would need a lot of number tweaks. Strongly agree. Also want to remind that sulfur (sulfur->acid->batteries) is a sort of small wall for the accumulators, which ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
... Thank you for a nice well-argumented response! I tend to agree with many of your points, but I still hardly see how some major issues got solved with proposed changes to oil processing. The major IMO, is the difficulty spike related to balancing multiple output problem that will happen sooner o...
