Re: Tips, Designs, & Tricks

Hey Skellitor! Long time no see. I just analyzed Aru's design and arrived at the conclusion that I am able to upgrade my design to incorporate both the compactness/efficiency AND his low-tech design, rendering both our designs obsolete. Details in my thread, I'll update you once I finish this new up...

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

Actually, your setup uses 5 small poles every 2 rows. Mine uses 5 medium poles every 3 rows. Once you stack my design away from the coal belt, you'll find you only need 5 poles every 3 rows, not the 10 it seems to show, so actually, you use cheaper poles, but not fewer. And yeah, poles don't block m...

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

Dang, I see my thread made history to still have posts on it almost 15 months later lol. Haven't been here for over a year :o On the low-tech version though, I can't really see the why one would want to focus on compactness with such starter tech. Early game isn't a time when you have the luxury to ...

No, walking into a base with a combat shotgun, poison capsules, and 134 destroyer capsules following you is, lol.

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

No, you missed my point. You showed the first pic with description of "here's 2 versions of the same builds" when you only shown one build in the pic, and the 2 builds aren't the same lol. Then you added how there's 2 builds so people can choose what they like, between the 2 builds instead...

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

Yep, updated the original post with it. Link to the thumbnail and original version at http://i.imgur.com/dnIa0xel.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/dnIa0xe.jpg. In it, the bottom small pole is disconnected from all except accumulator and radar, and the top small pole is connected to the 2 medium poles 1 ti...

Re: Tips, Designs, & Tricks

No problem, glad you got around to it. I want to add on though, the 3 pics you linked from my thread are cut off for being too large. Best use the large thumbnail versions which i linked in my thread so it doesn't. Also, the first and second pic aren't the same build - the first pic is the main setu...

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

Yeah, it's definitely necessary for priority control, and it doesn't actually store any energy. When working, it is actually always empty. The radar always uses all power from the accumulator, but with lower priority than the small pumps. The point of having the accumulator/radar setup is to speed u...

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

Tested for express belt! Unfortunately, modding in faster belts wasn't that effective, as I've found that compressing it too much will actually cause it to decompress hard. But I have played around with the splitter setup up yours, Cerbsen. Simpified it to just one splitter, as there was no need wha...

Re: The way I solar

Nice way to cut unused space around the substations by over half. Though after moving onto pure solar power, stamping down the usual solar/accumulator mixed setup reduces mental work on calculating how many accumulator stamps you need afterwards, so I prefer that instead for future-proofing.

Re: Binary Logic (UPDATE: 4-Bit CPU simulation)

@zaubara: Nice. I was sure you must've at least been there before. Never did get into the computing aspect of redstone circuitry much myself though. Focused more on compacting redstone designs instead, like my 12 hour digital clock (the last three pics in my TC imgur album, in vanilla redstone) and ...

Re: Binary Logic (UPDATE: 4-Bit CPU simulation)

Hey guys, I'm interested in knowing: as you've (both you?) built CPU's in Minecraft, were you ever part of The Redstone Foundation server long ago?

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

@koub: It does typically take triple digit hours of hard work to get good at games like this. As long as you're willing to make mistakes, try new things, never accept a suboptimal design, and understand the reason behind everything rather than just accept and memorize values with no personal analysi...

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

That is maybe good like so, cause otherwise I eventually would not play Factorio. ;) Truth be told, not only is it good, it's great, and you, me and everyone else here are so lucky to be in and be part of a community who cares for this stuff. No one really does in Tekkit Classic (and I've searched ...

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

Welp, you should just know then, the indifferent reaction you expect is in my opinion and experience quite unfounded seeing how the general reaction to this in Minecraft redstone is typically more along the lines of "holy s__, how did you do that?" And the minecraft community is a LOT more...

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

I'm not sure why you keep calling it boolean logic. Maybe you mean binary, and that's different. Sure, there is only true and false, but this is on digital electronics circuitry, and 3 inputs can have as many as 8 outputs and 32 inputs can have over 4.3 billion, not just true and false. On where the...

Re: Maximum express belt steel furnace throughput

@ssilk: Yeah, I saw that. Mainly why I feel it's cheesy is that logic gates are meant to be the most fundamental, the building block of every logic. Using smart inserters to create logic gates is totally backwards - it already has the equivalent of tons of logic gates in it for it to be able to comp...
