Re: Climate Change

Sorry for the necro, but the planet has been shifting patterns for ~3 billion years. My take is that before humanity became stationary, we migrated with the patterns, and as such there is no recent history or records of this. Hell, just last year Honga-Tonga volcano violently exploded and caused ~40...

I simply do not and will not trust psuedo algorithms as they are crap-ass piles of silicone and metal. They know nothing like a human does. Simply wasted resources and power that could have been used for a good cause....

Re: Possibly suppoert for SMT technology and NUMA

If it is SMT capable, why is it using 2 cores max on the server/client? Or is SMT only for the startup sequence?

Coal, oil, and petroleum-gas power generating stations.

As the title asks. Is Wube willing to implement such things like that. I like steam, solar and nuclear, but boilers and heat exchangers are for steam power only. I am thinking Satisfactory-like power generating. Yes, I know there are modifiers for that, but I just hope that for the vanilla players t...

Re: Colorblindness/Accessibility Improvements

I have a problem with seeing the rocks within a desert map. Having a Plasma Display does help that a little due to the phosphor-based colours, but I would like to see a colourblind mode, not just for my precious rocks, but for this game as a whole. I am concerned my vision may break more as I get ol...

Re: SSL/TLS connection failed

I am throwing this out there, but RivaTuner could be the culprit. It did that to me before I removed it. I wish I could comprehend how a video card statistics software can bugger up the TLS/SSL, but it did just that with me. Also: Are you using a Unified Threat Manager Firewall OS (UTM) as your inte...

Factorio already supports and uses SMT where it helps.
I did bot know that. Will there ever be a time where it can use 12-16 cores at a time?

Re: Increasing Parallezation by Adapted Thread Structure

Not just parallezation, but SMT technology also I feel would be great for this game. There are gaming PCs with 64-cores/128-threads now, so I am on board with this setup. It never made sense to me why Wube did not implement such a thing in the first place as there were machines with 12-cores/24-thre...

Re: Friday Facts #373 - Factorio: Space Age

I don't get why some people feel the need for a > 60 Hz refresh rate in a game like this? You gain nothing from it. I'm not asking for faster animations. If just the screen scrolling would be rendered with 120 fps, it will look much smoother despite a lower item update rate of 60 fps. Entities woul...

Re: [1.1.80] Save file corruption on operating system crash

I know this is a necro: But should never have write-cache enabled on windows because as of windows 8, the kernel was changed and if there was any freeze or crash (BSOD), not only the OS could corrupt, but anything relevant to writing to disk/ssd/vvme. Write-caching works by storing the to-be written...

Re: Server/client exact same specs still lags

The server doesn't need to do rendering so it gets to run slightly faster than a client. If you're at the edge or past what the client can do then the extra impact of having to do rendering will cause it to fall behind the server. I see. Thanks for clarifying that. My machine is a dinosaur, so I am...

Question about my setups

Hi, I have a server/client with xeon e5-2667 v2s @3.60Ghz with 128 GB DDR-31866 in quad-channel, capable of being in 8-channels. Is that fast enough for a gigabase with a lot of chunks explored? Or should I move to a ThreadRipper 2950x with DDR4-2933 for the client?

Possibly suppoert for SMT technology and NUMA

Hi, I am curious if the Factorio code is able to be programmed to support SMT technology (Simultanius Multithreading) and NUMA. I know this is far-out because not everyone has an advanced workstation server as a gamer, so I will not blame you if you choose not to support it.

Server/client exact same specs still lags

Hi. I have a server/client setup with both 128GB DDR3-1866 same CAS latencies, same CPUS (Xeon E5-2667V2 @3.6Ghz on both machines. The server uses a Super VGA PCI card for its video and my gamer-server uses an RTX 2080Ti. The problem is that even though I can catch up quickly, the FPS is hovering ar...

I would start with trying to keep the pollution low-profile as the Zerg do not like it and will evolve. This is based on the default settings, however.

Re: Performance optimization - post your saves

I just put yotta-scale values into the game and run with 44m construction robots due to a 4.2b stacking and watch my memory scream in agony. Thankfully I have a mainframe motherboard, so I can configure where the bandwidth goes and prioritise the dual-QPI system and the NUMAs. Weirdly enough, my ser...

Re: Article on satisfactory mentions user ratings often calling factorio "the better satisfactory"

I like Factorio more as I can go yotta-scale with the values. Unlike Satisfactory, I can test the bandwidth of my DRAM as well. For Satisfactory, I have an RTX 2080Ti with 32x 3.6Ghz and 128G RAM for that. I also like that Factorio has Zerg in it, and with mods, can make then mega-brutal. I also lik...

Re: Parrallel processing in games & applications

I use the NUMA setup to get the max out of my memory. My system can support 8-channel DDR3-1866 LR3DS ram. But I would like to see SMT technology integrated into this game at some point. Right now I just funnel all my bandwidth through my 4 sticks of DRAM whereas my server uses 2 sticks. My problem ...
