Wouldn't the only things on the spaceship be power generation and defence? Why would the colonists in space need a steady supply of iron, for instance?

EDIT 2: ok so i just looked at the steel smelting time, to keep up those furnaces would need speed upgrades (as much speed as possible, preferrably. They give 3 steel/10 sec, so you need basically 3x speed in then to keep up, but the 2x achieveable should be good enough for ppl who aren't building ...

hmm this is hard to answer, i kinda have a corcle of games i play like, really hard for wome period of time, and then completely forget about it for the next six months or so... I also found a way of doing this, but i used specialized Blue and red circuit "modules", where one blue module had two copper wire assemblers, two green circuit, one red and one blue...
