How to access the localised_name of an unknown entity?

I've looked at the localization tutorial and elsewhere, but I can't quite figure out how to access the localized name of an unknown entity. This example Yes, I know the example is about an item, not an entity, but the category shouldn't matter here. from the wiki seems easy enough: game.print({"...

Re: Player getting stuck in deep water

Thanks, it works great -- and the teleport() function saves a heap of code! I wonder why the author of the original mod didn't use it. Could it be that teleport() has not been available at the time (the original was published about 20 months ago)?

Re: Player getting stuck in deep water

I can't reproduce this. I spawned a car and teleported it onto a lake, and i can set myself as a driver just fine, even though once in the car i can't get out due to it being on a lake. Teleporting the car around with myself already inside also works fine. If you happen to be in the vehicle you jus...

Player getting stuck in deep water

I'm trying to improve this abandoned mod that allows you to link a vehicle to a car key and summon that vehicle by clicking on a location near you. While the original author apparently only had cars and tanks in mind, the mod works with all kinds of vehicles -- including the boat from Cargo ships . ...

Re: pumps seem useless for long distance pipes?

-- but it seems to be a good idea for covering shorter distances where setting up a rail network would be overkill. :-) It is never overkill to set up a rail network. Right, I didn't mean to use cars instead of, but in addition to a rail network. Say, you have two ore patches far away from your bas...

Re: pumps seem useless for long distance pipes?

You could always use the trunk of your car to fit in a load of barrels … :-) It's how I launched my first rocket, setting up auto-load/unload stations I could just drive to, stop at, drive off was fun. That was like 12.33 days though, before the barrel capacity nerf. Must have been a bit more than ...

Re: pumps seem useless for long distance pipes?

Is there a reason no one is suggesting that instead of trying to create the Trans-Alaska Pipeline you instead load that oil onto a train? That is too easy and would be way too flexible when expanding to other oil fields further away. You could always use the trunk of your car to fit in a load of ba...

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers

Looks similar to train unloading now with the 6 lanes. Except train unloaders only handle one item type, so for scalability maybe like this? Scales for any multiple of 2. The interesting bit is on the concrete, the rest is decorations. It's just a more generalized implementation of what you have on...

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers

Just found this on the wiki : Path tiles apply bonuses to the walking speed of the player and reduce rolling resistances for cars and tanks, improving their acceleration and top speed. They do not increase the speed of enemies. Has it always been that way? I dimly remember to have read that speed mu...

Sorry for the late reply, couldn't try out the suggestions before. Does anybody have an idea how to load multiple adjacent belts on both sides without using too much space? Does that qualify ? https://forums.factorio.com/download/file.php?id=50086 They certainly don'tuse much room. :-) @Pi-C: Does t...

But then how would you destroy the useless burner miners, burner inserters, and pistols that you don't want if you can't shoot your wooden boxes?
I would probably wait for a certain Kryzeth to come up with a clever mod ... :)

Go into map mode! There are a couple of helpful overlays (pollution, electrical network, turret coverage, logistic coverage) that you can toggle.

I advise you this topic :https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=71523 I am not sure it has been mentionned that it "should/could" be decided from the inserter's perspective. The fact that it is from belt's perspective and its consequences were discussed in details though ! Th...

Sure! I didn't look much beyond the first few postings in that thread and therefore got the impression it was about issues with curved belts only. But it seems to fit there after all.

Inserter behavior

At the beginning of my main bus, I've placed some chests (store houses from a mod, actually) from where inserters take the required items and load them on the belts. Inserters have one disadvantage, though: they only load the belt on one side. Usually, I would use a belt balancer in such cases -- bu...

Re: Friday Facts #306 - Experimental Demo

⦁ You have to feed coal to burner miners but not burner inserters. Seriously? Seriously. Burner inserters do need fuel, but they feed themselves if they can take the fuel from a belt or a box. That's why many players use burner inserters to feed the boilers of their steam engines long after they've...
