Re: A Question About Storage Chests on a Network
Are you using bots or belts to make miners, rails, inserters and everything? If it's with bots, you can just dump all the things into that network, preferably by unloading from a train into active providers so you can just send it there to get rid of trash. Wood and coal can be burned in steam machi...

Re: A Question About Storage Chests on a Network
Common beginner mistake.
Keep your robot networks as small and rectangular as possible.
No, you don't actually need it to cover the entire map.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
1) The game is buggy and will sometimes re-path trains inside the roundabout into a 270° turn. This crosses their own way so the chain signals inside the roundabout prevent the train from moving. The player has to go there and drive the train off the roundabout manually. Really? I suppose this coul...

Re: How-to: Two-way rails
especially early on when resources are scarce The only times I've had iron scarcity on that kind of level happen was when I was a beginner and never built rails because I didn't understand them and what are trains good for anyway when I have belts etc. The solution is to plan ahead and make a move ...

Re: How-to: Two-way rails
Why is this pinned?
This is a really bad practice.
A 2 lane rail system is no effort to set up and the signal advantage presented is a non-issue.
It's probably not good if this is the first thing a new player looking how to use rails sees.

Re: Four-way roundabout junction (hopefully deadlock-free)
Both junctions only allow for one left turn since turning left uses 3/4 of the roundabout, however yours allows for concurrent roundabout use and right turns. I think that is what you meant by "improve the concurrent use of the roundabout for left turns"? I can add that functionality to mi...

Re: Copy Paste Beacons
You can just drop modules by ctrl+ clicking beacons. Hold the mouse, module all of the beacons. No need to copypaste something that requires a finite item and besides, assemblers have room for modules too. You don't necessarily want to copy those when copying a recipe. Doesn't work when a beacon ha...

Re: Loaders?
Bots being OP is not a reason to make OP things for belts. That term has always puzzled me when applied to factorio you know. "OP" really means nothing in this game which is all about scaling up to potentially huge levels. Not overcoming opposition. A more interesting question is, should ...

Re: Loaders?
Yeah, bots are better at stupidlarge structures than belts. Always have been. That much is hard to dispute. They make things much easier to rearrange and expand. My only point of contention about the comparison is people slapping a fixed throughput number on bots -whose entire thing is a malleable, ...

Yeah the blueprint system still hasn't fully been adapted to its current form and I'm sure that's already on the devs radar.

Re: Bus design questions and considerations
Eventually even that smelter will become overloaded, you can consider adding smaller auxiliary smelters further in your factory to replenish the bus. That one little bit is pure genius and I just had to say it. Terribly simple, obvious in hindsight, and most people (me included) would not think abo...

Re: Loaders?
I really like that pallet idea in that FFF post. It seems like the most fun way to solve the problem of bots vs belts. And everyone wins at the end of that. And really, that's the core issue at hand with this Loader discussion, right? (Because enabling of Loaders is simply another "belt buff&q...

You need a couple more smelters to fully compress the belt, it's 72 for a blue one.

Re: So... Let's talk about bots, and how to fix them properly...
Now at 50 tiles, you cut the distance of that 100 tile bus in half and put the belts you don't use anymore next to the part still being used and look at the throughput at 50 tiles. now you have a 8 belt bus 320 items per second For fucks sake, belts don't magically rebuild themselves if you make us...

Re: So... Let's talk about bots, and how to fix them properly...
If you have a 4 belt bus, okay? You have a 4 BELT BUS, OKAY? That's 160 items per seconds, yes? 160 items per second is the throughput on this 4 belt bus, understand? That bus is 100 tiles long, you got that? 4 belt bus, 100 tiles long, 160 items per second throughput. You with me so far? Now at 50 ...
