Re: Load-dependent steam engine/turbines
There is a very simple design (on factorioprints I think) that turns off steam unless needed. I am away from the computer but you should be able to Google it easily by searching for "steam on demand". EDIT: Found the circuit - A simple green wire from an accumulator (connected to your powe...

Yep, it is so common to accidentally step on a moving belt while replacing belt and boom!!! all kinds of stuff gets destroyed.TRUEpicness wrote:Totally agree with the belt thing. You should be able to ONLY replace with splitters and undergrounds only, not regular belts

Re: Game+ in Factorio?
I'll say "No, because I hate the Game+ trend". What are you talking about? There are maybe 3 games in total that even have something like that. TVTropes can think of about a hundred . Zelda, Mega Man, Baldur's Gate, Plants vs Zombies... Man that is one long-winded "trend" we hav...

Lots of power, no Uranium.
I need to generate plenty of power to launch the rocket on a weird map: Negatives: - No Uranium on map. - I only have one small lake. - This is my run for no advanced logistic chests and no lasers (good thing, I couldn't afford to power lasers anyway) achievements. Positives: - Biter expansion is of...

Re: Oil Processing balance before launching rockets
I used to do that, but running out of lubricant over and over made me.reconsider. It's still a good idea to beeline advanced oil. If you need more heavy oil, jump to coal cracking. I do beeline the "research" and setup cracking with automatic conditions, what I have found not worth doing ...

Re: Oil Processing balance before launching rockets
If you have enough of all three kinds of processed oil, the refinery stalling isn't a problem - it's the pumps stalling (and even that costs only the minimum amount of oil per oil patch per second). The issue I encounter often in the early stages is exactly the refinery stalling because I need a lo...

Re: Game+ in Factorio?
The new game+ mode could be implemented by launching yourself in a rocket to crashland somewhere else, but keeping whatever armour you have equipped and whatever items you have in your inventory. Bring a few stacks of plates, circuits, solar panels, accumulators, science flasks etc, and you can qui...

Re: Game+ in Factorio?
I truly hate the repetitive manual tasks of the early game. Although it doesn't matter once you are done with Achievements, as by that point you can either just expand one of your games or use mods to eliminate the tedium, it takes several hundred hours to get to that point. So I totally vote for Ga...

Re: The Green Dilemma
I tried to go green when I started with Factorio. But I soon concluded that the way the game is designed it is pointless. The main reason seems to be the biter expansion mechanic. So, one might say turn off expansion. Except that once you start tweaking you might tweak a number of things, and it is ...

Re: Oil Processing balance before launching rockets
The best practice is to beeline Advanced Oil Processing before you do anything else with oil. I used to do that, but running out of lubricant over and over made me.reconsider. I know that most experienced players say that what they run out of first is Petroleum gas, but with all the cracking option...

Re: Storage Chest Logistic Filter: Bug or "Feature"?
If all the chests were empty, yes. But that's not the situation you're in. The situation you're in is "Chest A has coal in it. Chest B has a logistic filter for coal." Why do you care which of your storage (I'm assuming?) chests contain coal? Could you use a buffer or requester instead? 1...

Oil Processing balance before launching rockets
When oil processing is unbalanced, one of the fluid tanks will fill and cause the whole production line to grind to a near halt. This often resolves itself in later stages, but can be a real pain before making rocket fuel for rockets. Band-aid solutions include include: - Adding fluid tanks to take ...

Re: Storage Chest Logistic Filter: Bug or "Feature"?
Well you don't want 20 different chests to each 1 fast inserter 1 yellow inserter 1 peice of coal etc. Much better to store all the coal in one chest so you don't have lots of partial stacks everywhere, each taking up a slot. Agreed, but shouldn't that *one* chest be the one with the filter set for...

I agree with the devs, there is not much value to be had from queuing a few researches in advance. So I voted I do not care, who's is about the same as no.

Re: I Miss Alien Artifacts!
I never played with alien artifacts. And yet I can see the attractiveness of hunting for them. At the same time I would not care for them to be part of the main research tree... because although there are some players that enjoy the combat aspect, combat is done much better in games that specialize ...

Re: My guide to "There is no spoon" (15.X version)
Nice Raneo. There are lots of "look how I did Spoon" posts but very few take the time to post the map, screenshots and especially the blueprints. As DOSboots said, adding a write-up with step by step instructions would also help. I am one of those "slow and steady" builders who u...

Storage Chest Logistic Filter: Bug or "Feature"?
The way I understand the Storage Chest Logistic Filter is supposed to work is that if you set it, items of that type should go to that particular chest as long as the chest has space. But... I noticed that if any storage chest has even 1 item of that type - even chests with no filter set at all, the...

Re: Nuclear questions
Generally, if you build two 2x4 power plants, you get an equivalent of 56 reactors out of it. If you build a single 2x8 power plant, you get an equivalent of 60 reactors. That's a mere 7% higher output, and will never go beyond 14% even if you build an infinitely long reactor chain. Is the improvem...
