Re: I can't beat it...
Yes, you are correct, the sand does absorb pollution, and I knew that. Sorry I phrased it that way... I suppose I meant to say it absorbs the least amount of pollution possible? After all, the map has to be made out of something. And yet, dirt with grass on it absorbs about 3 times as much pollution...

Re: I can't beat it...
Some good advice has been given. However, most of it is not possible to use since I can't even make it past oil processing. I also am trying to do this challenge without robots, lasers, or solar power. But those "self limitations" don't really matter in this challenge since the real proble...

Re: I can't beat it...
The grenade advice would certainly work better than me using my repair packs trying to save the guns from being destroyed. However, I will have to get more practice in using them on the fly. The game doesn't exactly play like a first person shooter.

Re: I can't beat it...
Yikes it might have been a year since I was playing... Or perhaps a year since I started my last run. Once I got my flamethrower turrets up the fix on the spawners wouldn't really matter. Flamethrowers kill large groups efficiently. Thank you guys, both the spawner and collision fixes would explain ...

Re: I can't beat it...
Since I am playing on an almost all sand map with minimal trees, there is very little absorption of polluion. In the past, I learned that faster worked better. Perhaps I can try a minimalist base and defend it while slowly advancing through the techs? Not sure this will work. Since in deathworld mar...

I can't beat it...
I have played about 15 or so maps in 1.0 at about the hardest settings that are survivable. Deathworld Marathon, minimum moisture, maximum sand, minimum trees, water only in starting area. When I was playing 1.8 I was able to survive in 25-33% of these type of maps. Granted, it is a severe struggle,...

And then... you can play deathworld marathon on an all sand map, with minimal water, and minimal trees and fight for survival for hours and hours just trying to get a basic base to survive long enough to get oil processing going...

Re: I've beaten the toughest!
Great work! I am working at this challenge with a few caveats making it IMHO even harder. My settings: The only water is in the starting area, so there are no barriers to attack from all directions. Moisture settings at minimum. Tree setting at minimum. And bias set up to maximize sand vs red desert...

Re: Does the crashed ship disappear on its own?
Thanks for the reply. Good to know that I need to protect it from the biters. It shall be a new goal for the early game to try and keep it intact.

Does the crashed ship disappear on its own?
The main body of the crashed ship disappeared during my game. I didn't reclaim any resources or the ammo. I was hoping to keep the crash intact as a decoration to build around. However at some point the main body of the spaceship was gone even though the rest of the wreckage is still present. I imag...

I am logged in at 4 AM here in Chicago waiting to update to 1.0 This game has given me so much joy over the years that I just wanted to thank the Factorio team. So much work has been put in... and this version of the game is fantastic! Can't wait to build up around the new crash site on the hardest ...

On the settings DW/Marathon turrets are the first research or you may not get to a second research at all.

Re: Not pleased with 17.1 so far...
Now my critique for my real playthrough so far. I am absolutely loving .17. Love the GUIs, love the quickbar, only the tech page took a little getting used to. The fact that the tree changed was probably what caused me the most confusion. Love the new graphics (the belts look amazing!), love the new...

Re: Not pleased with 17.1 so far...
I respectfully disagree with the OP, except for one important point. The placement of biter nests and the starting resources seems to be a bit more random than it should be. Sometimes even on default settings biter nests can be awfully close to either the starting resources or the starting water spo...

Re: Game Sounds, LaserT, Worms and Alert
I love the new sounds. The alarm is my favorite! The old alarm sound was so dull that I often found I didn't even notice it... obviously at my own peril. The biters scared the shit out of me the first time I heard them. I love the effect as they should be scary. Great job Wube. I am playing a no las...

Re: .17 opinions?
Strange. On Deathworld Marathon it seems a little bit easier so far. The biters are coming a little slower and evolving a little slower possibly? However, the bases are tougher to clear early on just because they are much larger to start with. It is hard to tell what settings are causing the change ...

Lazy Bastard and Deathworld, has it been done?
The question is obvious. Has anyone done the lazy bastard challenge with deathworld settings?
It seems with .17 this may be easier considering the new "no limits" in the assembly machine ingedients.

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
More challenging late game biters would be great though. At least as an option. But the devs apparently never want them to be anything more than a slight nuisance :(
They are much more than a slight nuisance if you adjust the settings correctly. I lose a lot... And I think I am act...
