Re: Exploration Mode
I would have definitely done just that if it would have been a for profit thing. I just didn't expect that ppl would be this serious about making mods for a video game. That is not the point. You are using the work of someone else without permission. That work is protected by intellectual property ...

Re: Version 0.16.16
Honestly, to all those who want the unintuitive black magic powered splitters : https://xkcd.com/1172/ As an Emacs user, I can relate to that one :D Yes, I want the black magic. I was using it to trickle-feed my factories and keep my belts empty (personal challenge). I used splitter networks to dis...

Re: Shouldn't unmerging a belt be as simple as merging it?
I have to admit, any sane person would never dump all sorts of items on one belt with the intention to seperate them later. It is very inefficient. Please enlighten me on your definition of efficiency, as I do not see this. E.g. I have an early game green circuit belt where I do this to share iron ...

Re: Belts vs Bots - A response to the latest FFF
The main thread seems to be mostly an "voice your opinion" dumping ground which moves very quickly. There is some discussion weaved in there, but it is hard to find. I say, don't merge. I would personally prefer a couple of separate threads investigating a specific direction than one place...

Re: Shouldn't unmerging a belt be as simple as merging it?
We agree that we disagree in that respect. Yes we do. Although I am also open to the introduction of a new item that handle all the cases in an interesting way. I like that the underground belt solves the problem, but it is not a clean solution. It takes space forcing you to be creative with your b...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Even if you're not in direct competition with others, you can feel offended by the simple fact that shortcuts exist. Also, in a way we are all competing to build the "best" factory. That is competition at the metagame level. You can actually imagine Factorio events, competition taking pla...

Re: Train ID as Constant Combinator
I would like this option as well. I have been playing around with direct production from and to trains (basically a train driving into a bunch of assemblers) and I want to be able to carry recipes and instructions in the train itself (filtering gets you almost there but not entirely). The train bein...

Re: Shouldn't unmerging a belt be as simple as merging it?
I don't really care that it is not a popular opinion, but I love this trick. I would hate to see it go and I would hate it for new parts to be introduced to replace its functionality. Ideally we have a small set of simple components that interact in lots of interesting ways (which boosts creativity)...

Re: Intel CPU Design flaw
Is it, really? Most of the reports on it I've heard so far have said it's next to impossible to fix with patches and CPUs have to be changed on hardware level to get rid of it. No. Meltdown is an Intel specific problem which has a fix, but unfortunately the impact of that fix can lead to massive lo...

Re: Curcuits: how to compare two unknown signal types?
Yes, exactly. As comparison you can utilize for example: everything = 0 --> output 1. If they cancel out this will output 1 otherwise it will output 0.

Can the second one send -1 instead? Then you can add the signals. A nonzero signal means different types, no signal means equal types.

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
I am not sure you are getting the point of this thread, which is to discuss what you do or do not like about this thought. Sure, I get that. I merely question the effectiveness of the approach. A general rule of design is to ask your users for problems not for solutions. The majority of the discuss...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
If there is research that increases carrying capacity of Logistic Bots, why isn't there research that increases the Belt Speed, and thus capacity? Perhaps because it will completely mess up your carefully balanced flow rate computations. I would not like this unless it only applies to a new tier of...

I would not call it complicated, but it is not obvious. Here is a palette from my creative world for splitting and merging.
