Re: The Compound (Tiny, Efficient, Modular)
Feels kind of out of the spirit of your imposed challenge to have outsourced smelting to one of your outposts. I could be wrong but I do not believe he has outsourced smelting to an outpost. The trains are bringing in ore. The 10 auxiliary furnaces are included in the base - they just are not dedic...

Introduce Yourself
Hey there! I just started playing Factorio about a week or two ago. I have started posting on the forums and wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I am 36 years old and live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I write reports for a living and have a degree in Computer Information Systems and Accoun...

Re: Curvy Track Beat Skinny Track in Throughput and Compress
I will keep doing tests and hopefully have some more videos to follow up on this but below are some quick calculations I've done. The compression results were measured beginning with a 100% compressed track as suggested but what bothers me I guess is there will be two different measures of throughpu...

Curvy Track Beat Skinny Track [Edit: Results Under Review]
It's all about that base 'bout that base... This just in, curvy track has better throughput and compression than skinny track! :o Okay, don't get too excited, there's a catch - if you ever flatten out the curvy track into a skinny track everything breaks because items clump together and slow down to...

Re: Inserter Automation - I wish!
Fish is showing low throughput but high compression. I am showing high throughput and high compression. I'm not saying it's easy or piratical. I'm just sharing the knowledge that is is better so that those creative people in the community who like coming up with new builds can put it to use in some ...

Re: What's the best way to mine mixed ore patches like this?
For trees I clear only what I need to and wait for poison capsules to clear large sections of trees. They are most bothersome for me when laying rail track. I use shotgun when I need to clear a line for a track and poison capsules when I need to clear a large area for an outpost. The tank may be goo...

Re: Good time to come back and play Single Player Experiment
Biggest single player issues I've seen recently have been with save files not loading after the update because they reference distance chunks for some reason. Nothing to fear with a new play through that I've seen.

Re: Fast and/or Custom Game Starts
Right. Remember, the game is alpha! For now I want to see other new content. Like working multiplayer, making rail tracks by drag and draw, more end game content, more aliens, smarter circuit networks... If I want to play something like that, I can fix it myself. :) I think the confusion is between...

Re: Inserter Automation - I wish!
No it doesn't. Stuff that's placed on a belt like that will effectively block the belt. The misplaced items move at a crawl, even blocking everything in one or both of the proper lanes behind it. That is only true if your straighten the belt out. On diagonal track the misplaced items travel just fi...

Re: Inserter Automation - I wish!
Oh, you can overload a belt like that? Well, the inserter factories didn't really work. It seems to work okay up until the track straightens out. In the screen shot it looks like the straight portion was working okay but it really wasn't. There may be some use with the diagonal ore line - not sure....

True, the one guy who chose 'no' didn't understand the poll was asking if he responded I think!

I believe the question for the poll is "Do you think light/lamps on poles is a good idea". I am basing that on the title of the post.

Troubleshoot Train Signals - Help OFFERED
Hello there. I'm learning about train signals and have come quite a long way in my understanding of them. I have seen many tutorials but I feel like there is still a gap between knowing how to "lay track" correctly so the signal placement is easy versus understanding how signals operate. S...
