Re: Friday Facts #238 - The GUI update (Part II)
Wikipedia tells us that about 8% of the male population are affected. And by just taking a wild guess I'll assume that most of your playerbase is male. So by sticking to the green, yellow, orange, red colorscale (research dialog for example), you're more or less neglecting about 15% of your players...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
I tried to get 4 blue belts worth of plates trabnsported with a 2k tiles long roboport-line having buffer chests every 25 ports. I only got around 3.5 blue belts out. Buffer chests seem to be ignored by the bots if there are requester chests (that are also requesting from buffer chests) to serve. Th...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
A large base of well organized belts is sexy. A gigantic hornet's nest of bots is cancerous. For aesthetic gentlemen that reason is good enough. That is the sole reason, i only use bots for personal delivery and production of low quantity stuff needing odd ingredients (until i get it automated the ...

Re: Mod portal: change "download count" to "install count"
A less storage-intensive solution could be to not count manual downloads and only count ingame downloads where the mod did not have been installed before. The game could remember mods that where installed at any time in its installation lifetime and send a flag alongside the download request indicat...

I too don't get that. The mandatory addiction treatment after prolonged use of Factorio certainly is a lot more costly than the 30 bucks spent on the drug.bulldog98 wrote:I am also puzzled why people complain about the 30 bucks. That is still around <1 cent per hour played for most people

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
I don't know, if it is the case or not (not a heavy bot user and not into beacons myself). But if a botted layout would allow more productivity modules than a non-botted layout, the botted layout would always be destined to win the economic showdown for runtimes aproaching infinity. Then it would no...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
I would prefer something similar to this palletizing mod instead of stacking. Palletizing needs pallets and dedicated machines (in the linked mod this are regular assemblers set to [de-]palletizing recipes). It adds to the logistic challenges. Empty pallets might be transportable by bots. Filled pal...

Re: Price change
I want to say that the destruction of monsters is useless. The bitters are just one aspect you have to manage to get your factory going. If you ignore them, they will rip you apart. They limit the time you have for researching military stuff and add a price tag to expansion. Factorio does not want ...

Re: Price change
The only thing that worries me is the infrastructure the game needs to run, especially the mod portal. Don't worry about the mod portal and multiplayer lobby. Finding someone making good models or textures is hard. But people who can code a decent web service and portal are much more easy to find. ...

Re: Attacking biters with turrets makes all weapons pointless
When you are lacking behind the evolution curve and are constantly attacked using the flame thrower turret would require serious oil reserves (which I didn't have) and when I tried the flame thrower burned down my own stuff. Guess it takes some experimenting and planning to get flame thrower turret...

Re: Price change
The recommendation of the highlevel Ferengi would probably work very well. Subsriptions could indeed be a working solution if you plan to work on the product for a long time after initial "completion". But i doubt, Wube has planned this. They worked on Factorio a long time already. They ar...

Try the flame thrower. I don't like it, but it's seriously op - so might help you remove that damn bitters from your property quickly.mrvn wrote:Lots of alien nests and worms in sight and uranium nowhere to be found.

Is a one-lane belt impossible?
I searched the API and got the impression, that there is no UPS-friendly way to implement a one-lane belt. Is that true? Does anyone have an idea, how to implement such a thing wich should work like the two-lane belts and does not need to be able to interact with them? I would like to make a palleti...

Re: Attacking biters with turrets makes all weapons pointless
it is a common myth, producing pollution increases evolution absorption by nests is only triggering attacks see Factorio wiki Wow, did not know that. Guess i only profit from lower pollution production due to wasting less ammo then. No, your pollution raises biter evolution. It just doesn't have an...

Re: Attacking biters with turrets makes all weapons pointless
Nothing accelerates biter evolution faster than going around, blowing nests up. You can't avoid big biters at the point at which you get efficiency modules and electric furnaces to manage pollution. If you leave a cluster of turrets behind whenever you blow up a nest, you have to blow up every nest...

Currently the map is: - random tiny cliffs in starting area, no real cliff walls or any outside of starting area. - No lakes/oceans. Only "swamp land". - Almost no coal - Almost no stone - Almost all desert Must be another game. In Factorio 0.16 i never had problems with resource or biome...

Re: Attacking biters with turrets makes all weapons pointless
A belt is a HUGE buffer and I've used that exact setup. But when you are getting attacked at multiple places the first one takes all the ammo from the belt and then the second, third, ... runs out. If you are under constant ongoing attack, you are doin it wrong. The game encourages an american play...
