Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Merging logistic and construction bots into just Flying Robots. Removing Active provider, Buffer and Requester chests and having just Passive provider and Storage chests. Flying Robots will do everything construction bots do now and also supply the player. yeah I read it, except all I hear is what m...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Imagine, for example, if the base game was changed to be the Creative Mode mod. Nobody could tell you how to play factorio, true. But new players? There would not be so many. Newbies would find themselves in a world of limitless freedom to assemble wierd inscrutable factories building multi colored...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
100% train bases with no belts are a novelty at best. you literally only need belts to get the resources from the electric mining drills onto the train. thats it. technically you can go 100% no belts by mining dircetly into chests and then inserting that into the train but it would limit your minin...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
11) I'm not convinced that solar power being ultimately resourceless is a bad thing. (I like it as is, personally) but if we go with the argument of that being the real problem with bots... the most reasonable way to solve that is probably to give accumulators a shelf life of say 100x their max cha...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
challenge accepted. this takes 13K iron, 21K copper and 3K plastic and turns it into roughly 12K green circuits 20 seconds, 1K red circuits 40 seconds and then 500 blue circuits 60 seconds and can be stacked side by side to get max use out of the beacons. and this can be done without any belts or b...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
yeah and after I place 1 of them my framerate gets cut in half if I am even looking near it. the trains however can be spammed endlessly with no fps drops. bots and belts are inferior for longer games. you will hit a limit eventually. If you are serious that placing one belt or one bot cuts your fr...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
I'm not worried about costs, my point is that bots cost a lot for their usage. The costs I use include liquid costs. However, a pair of express undergrounds moves 40 items per sec over 8 tiles, how many bots would take to provide non stop throughput of 40 items per second over the same distance? Bo...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Try fitting trains, inserters and assemblers between 2 rows of beacons so you can get 5.5 craft speed. There isn't enough room. you dont need 2 rows. just add another train next to the first one. get double use out of your single row of beacons and spam trains. Well I'm talking about competing with...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
A feature that hasn't been really mentioned which makes belts more fun are loaders. I only play with loaders nowerdays. Inserters (even the faster ones from bobs) are just too slow and flow-disruptive. You'll still use bots for the pain-in-the-arse 20 component thingies of which you don't need much...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
While I hate to tell anyone "You can't have that thing you like," my personal dislike of logistics bots does make me think about what we'd have if that devtime had been spent elsewhere. If they hadn't been coding logistics bots, would we have more varieties of belts? Programmable splitter...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
high throughput is best done with 0 belts and 0 bots. take directly from a train into assemblers.

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
I like belts, but bots can achieve infinite item throughput over a path. Belts cannot. I like belts so much that I sometimes put cars on belts to increase the belt's total throughput. If the cars would flow through splitters and underground belts, I could stop using bots. What I really want is a pa...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Be careful increasing belt throughput as belts could displace trains Currently I consider a blue belt equal to about one train car if a train comes every 50 seconds. If belts were "buffed" to 3-4 times the throughput of a blue belt, then most of my early to mid game trains (usually 4 cars...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
the point is, if you are going to change robots you need to add something new to the game to fill the gap there are those that do not have time to do everything themselves and want to play single player so bots are necessary and convenient -add ropeway conveyors for medium sized bulk orders for medi...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
well just like anything else that requires power, you can turn it off when its not being used. once you unlock wires you can connect it to a circuit network and manage the power usage. a lot of belts are not utilized 100% of the time. this makes a lot of sense to me. a motor at the start of the belt...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
I think he meant get rid of different belt colors and only have 1 belt type that requires a motor to increase the speed of the belt. this actually would simplify belts quite a lot and make upgrading them much easier instead of unlocking new belts in the tech tree, you unlock more powerful steam/elec...

this is actually a good tech alternative that requires steam power and solves the problem of ammo, repair packs, and other small orders.

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
re "stacked belts" I would love to see this. Give me a whole new category of belt where each individual "item" moving along the belt can actually be a stack of 2+ items. If an inserter tries to drop an item on top of another item of the same kind, they get stacked. If you pull a...
