Yeah it looks like multiple levels.
But if factorio where to include bridges and make making high throughput networks easier, there should be some drawbacks like in OpenTTD where curves and bridges slows down trains significantly.

It can drastically improve small intersection, but in mine intersection and some others the limitation of throughput is merging lanes.
I consider using this as cheating and taking away challenge.

I have switched the blueprint around a couple of times and the current version sounds like it have an error. I'll take a look at it but not today. If you want you can download the blueprint book I have called 3 to 1 train merger and swap out the merger

To test it, you can throw it on the test bench. Download my version of it if you want to understand the test bench more easily. It doesn't make any unnecessary crossings, no roundabouts and is correctly signaled. It should perform exactly like the compact intersection or really any good 4 way 2 lane...
