Re: Friday Facts #408 - Statistics improvements, Linux adventures

When did you implement fork() for save? I suggested it in 2016! https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=24242 According to this other thread, sometime with version 0.16.x, though it appears to have been an undocumented change, so unknown if it was 0.16.0 or a later iteration. https://f...

Are you going to bring non blocking saving to single player? I really only see the multiplayer setting.
The non blocking saving setting they mentioned is for both.

Re: Collections that can be shared

Hey, how cool would it be if we could create Collection of Mods that then can be downloaded all at once. Same as the Steam Workshop Collection Feature. With that people could create collection of specfic playthough, share them and people dont need to search hundreds of modname. I think you can alre...

Re: @raiguard RE: background saving

As far as I know, Factorio runs almost entirely in the memory, unlike most other games, which is why even slight issues with your ram are noticeable in Factorio while everything else seemingly runs just fine and you need so much more for this game as the factory grows. It seems you're mixing some t...

Re: Fluid Mechanics Still Broken, 6 Years Later?

I don't want to see instantaneous fluid transmission in this game. That just feels wrong and doesn't go with anything else in this game (with the exception of power transmission). I'm not sure if most of the players think the same. Would you say "you all play it wrong"? Well, I wasn't spe...

Re: @raiguard RE: background saving

I'll admit that I'm a bit puzzled by the claim that it takes twice as much memory though - most of that should be libraries, graphics, etc. that aren't going to be modified by EITHER process, and thus won't be duplicated no matter what either does. As far as I know, Factorio runs almost entirely in...

Re: Fluid Mechanics Still Broken, 6 Years Later?

But yea, as others wrote already... just make more fluid than is drained; then it will hardly be an issue. No, there's no such state in the game "I have enough of ...". If your factory expands, you always, always lack of some components. "Just produce more of" is a tem...

Wow, posting from a computer today, my phone made that picture huuuge . Sorry about that. :P Looking at your log file, I don't see that line anywhere in it. In fact, there's only one line with the word "Error" in it, and it had something to do with an invalid keybind. A lot of that log fil...

Not sure what 'sloshing' means [...]
I think they're referring to the oscillating/wave effect back and forth through the system, though I could be wrong.

Re: Fluid Mechanics Still Broken, 6 Years Later?

Except you could not use cracking with the basic tech, so everyone was researching quickly the advanced oil processing, and setting up cracking otherwise you'd either have to mine the tanks. Or at some early stage of factorio developement you could void fluid in steam engines, not just steam, but a...

Re: Techtonica makes me depressed. Factorio could be real 3D

I have previously advocated for 3D factorio, so it is on-topic as a game suggestion. Moving this from suggestions to off topic seems a Word of God statement from the developers that Factorio will NEVER be 3D. Sigh. Well, yes, Factorio as it currently stands will never be 3D. That would require a hu...

Re: Fluid Mechanics Still Broken, 6 Years Later?

Some gamers still around from the earliest early access development versions seem to have a trauma about oil production and perpetuate this trauma. I'm not from that time, but from what I read, advanced oil processing (the recipe for turning crude oil into heavy oil, light oil and petroleum gas) se...

Re: Friday Facts #407 - Automating a soundtrack

Sorry if I missed any posts or replies regarding the same topic, but I just wanted to add a voice of concern that examples from this and previous FFF are very disturbing and I hope they're examples from some action-packed events, like biter attacks, lightning storm events (if they're not constant, ...

Re: Friday Facts #407 - Automating a soundtrack

My only suggestion/request is please make this moddable, or add a system where the user can supply a config file with "pre-arranged" tracks (such as lists of integers representing sample ids). That way, players could "compose" their own tracks, share tracks, use AI to generate t...

3D factorio for me is 3D graphics, with no change to the top down perspective.
I feel pretty much the same, though I'd like to have camera rotation and possibly tilt (so I can watch from the ground perspective as my turrets battle waves of enemies  ).

Re: Friday Facts #407 - Automating a soundtrack

Last week examples were from much much farther stage in the production. This week's examples are tech demos to show what the system is capable of. First example is showing tiny samples and a lot of randomization, the second example is on the other side of the spectrum with longer samples and little...

Re: Expansion hype thread - Any updates on when/if there will be an expansion?

It says you have 2527 posts. I think your opinion maybe a little biased. Well, I have been posting here for the past... 7 years? And have been voicetress at times, some times even against changes the devs made. You're biased, too ("Been burned to many times by Devs"). If these devs had a ...
