Can confirm that you can only pick up newly generated alien artefacts. You'll have to collect the old eggs the old fashioned way. Its probably worth a bug report if you think its slowing your game down.

I noticed when I started 0.11.7 for the first time, it did hang at 10% loading for half a minute, but it loaded smoothly after that.
I didn't have the "max-texture-size" setting in my config file, so it seems like this particular crop caching issue is solved for this version on my machine.

I noticed the player running animation looks more believable, nice one! Its a bit jerky when wearing 6 exoskelotens but thats minor.

It seems 0.11.x has new graphics settings: "graphics-quality=very-low" or "graphics-quality=low". I assume it does't conflict with the old settings. Also if that doesn't help then try adding the line "max-texture-size=4096" to the [graphics] section in config/config.ini...
