Re: Refineries - Clean Piping

You guys are right -- I totally neglected to include pumps on this one. Still not too bad considering the pumps can be used right as the piping breaks away from the refineries. Can't believe I forgot them :/

Re: Factorio 0.9.1 Optimization Guide

I prefer to mass-produce ultra belts. I dump them into provider chests (fill them up) and have the player logistic chests on my person.

I find it a great way to use up a ton of gears (and plates), while providing a truly useful function.

Almost wish they were more expensive.

Refineries - Clean Piping

http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz274/rlerner/cleanpipes_zps511d3bbe.png This layout is expandable to as many, or as few, refineries as you want to use. Features are: - Easiest design for walking through the refinery area I've done so far. - Three outputs are pretty well separated, allowing proc...

Distributable Blueprints

It would be awesome if I could render a blueprint of something (for example, my recent posts here & here ) -- and then it is in a %appdata%/factorio/blueprints folder. I could then take the file I exported and use it in other save games, or share it on the factorio forums for other people to use...

Re: Horseshoe Circuit Factory

That's the neat thing -- you can use this earlier on by using assembly machine 1's -- the ratios are still balanced at that point as well. Obviously you would need the demand for circuits to satisfy, but once you have this, it works quite well. I had one factory that two of these using assembly 3's ...

Re: 3D rendering

Think of using PNGs as a bytecode cache or compiler. You can build a program in an interpreted language, when then has to be JIT compiled before it starts using processing power to do its job. This in turn becomes a tremendous waste of time, as each time a program is used, this needless compute cycl...

Re: Fluid Refund when Changing Oil Production

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but if you break a pipe and let the machines run out, that is minimal waste. On the other hand, changing the recipe to nothing on the chemical plant will also stop production and allow you to run out what is stored downstream from the chemical plants (same ...

Re: Barrel logistics

Before changing my railway strategy to separate cars for full and empty, my older solution worked quite well. I would fill the car to the max with empty containers, and at the loading station, I would have several inserters pulling out, into chests (so it unloads quickly), and several inserters putt...

SilverWarrior -- I couldn't pick up the wood since it isn't a placeable entity -- those can't be stored in your quickbar (iron plates, copper, wood, etc).

CherryKiss - Glad you got it! :)

Re: Factorio 0.8.8 Sprite Rendering Issue

MF- Mine did not. Here is my overkill solution. I wiped my computer. Reinstalled the OS, reinstalled latest factorio, and it worked. I know problems like these are hard to track down, and I doubt it was the graphics card (the current version runs fine). So I took that approach to rule out other isse...

Re: Signs & Designated areas

I know this is a pretty good bump, but I think I may have an idea for this, and people may still have a desire for it. Currently you can select a region for the construction bots to take down buildings, etc. What if we used the same selector interface to select a region, and then place a sign in tha...

Re: Pipes 80% underground or longer segments

Quite some time ago, catwalks were suggested for walking over splitters and underground belt entrances/exits. We can now walk over them. Still, I would love to see catwalks implemented which allow me to walk above machinery, belts, and so on. It would be a new item that I know has had demand in the ...

Re: my 2 cents on the oil industry

I love the barrels, and wish they would add them for all fluid types. I would also like to see the assembly machines be used to create all items, and receive barrels of whatever chemical they need to make the product, or, a direct pipe optionally. In the real world, companies don't build with large ...

Would be nice to have an alternative way to get rid of the stone without a weapon, even if it doesn't yield stone "ore" afterwards.

I was just coming here to suggest that. There are times I cannot play it full screen, and the details get hidden behind the battery, or off the screen.

Would love something like the "P" production statistics for the logistic network.

http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz274/rlerner/horseshoecircuit_zps7f4e72ea.png The horseshoe circuit factory balances wires with circuits, and uses copper buffer chests. Re: Factorio 0.9.1 Optimization Guide

I had suggested an item counter that sits on belts and simply retains the quantity of items that have passed beneath it, without interfering with the flow.

That would be a fantastic help for optimizing the factory in this way... Hopefully we can see it one day, it would be a lot of fun to play with.
