Another option specific to not having to repeat yourself is to use a non-freeplay scenario (e.g. sandbox), since you can't get achievements in those even without using commands. You can only extract the map seed/exchange string if you use freeplay. I made that mistake before. Hopefully you don't. 0...

Train damage to players counts as a form of friendly fire, which can be disabled with a console command:

(this has other side effects like not taking any damage from AoE weapons like grenades or nukes and you'll still take damage from biters)

I understand it's supposed to be a sporadic crack from the fuel etc. but it sounds a lot worse when multiple instances of the sample are overlaid (e.g. working in/near furnace columns). Ideally(?) it'd be an extra sound layered on top of the base loop with some further randomisation between close so...
