Re: Railroad
I notice the train is called a diesel locomotive (in English anyway), but it runs on coal rather than a liquid fuel. It would be cool if there were two tiers of train, with a slower steam locomotive first that uses coal, and then the current train becomes fuelled by heavy or light oil (or a mix?) lo...

Re: On the physiology of Biters
They don't say it, but the modules reduce pollution by the same factor as power usage. Just try putting an effectivity module in, and you'll see the pollution rate reduce. Anyway, back to biters. It seems like they aren't very intelligent, even as a collective, because they don't understand the dang...

Re: Basic strategy for taking out biter nests?
It sounds like you're being to hard on yourself with map generation. The first time I played I turned all the spawner stuff right down so I had a chance to get the hang of things before I had to start dealing with biters. I didn't kill a biter nest for 20 hours in that first game, and I had a big st...

Re: Another stupid question [Answered]
It's because if a furnace filled up entirely with ore, and you had a line of 5 furnaces, you would have only 1 going for ages until you final filled it, and the next furnace would start filling. It would take forever for production to get gong.

Re: My scalable creations
It could be made a little more compact. I demonstrated a factory design allowing for scalability of all production: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DOHLCCrE_M It shows the design I use for red science. I don't know what the ratio is supposed to be of gears to science packs but it could easily be ch...

That's what the effectivity module does. I fill everything with them and use solar power, and have basically no pollution. The biters never bother me!mrrobot wrote:I would appreciate a pollution reduction module

Re: On the physiology of Biters
You say that they will fling themselves at their targets without any regard for their own survival, but how can we know that they will fight to the death? The only life on the planet appears to be biters, worms and fish. It may be that they've never been challenged, and their usual result is a mass ...

Re: Starved via Throughput
It's a very good idea to have a huge trunk of belts going through the middle of your factory with production coming off the sides like The Phoenixian. It allows for huge expansion of your production capacity limited only by how fast the materials can travel along the belts (and based on what you wan...

Re: The Colonists: An End Game Proposal
Factorio is a game that goes "Here are some tools. You can do about 2000 different things with them, so go nuts. There is an endgame but that's just there in case you want one. any questions? Right, well shout me if you need anything." And I think that's part of why it's so awesome. There'...

Re: Beginner's Guide to Robotics
Right, so there are four kinds of chest and i'll go through the two basic ones: The passive provider and the requester. Anything in a passive provider chest is accessible by the logistics robots and they will use it to satisfy requests. The requester chest, and also your inventory, has a logistics m...

Re: Starved via Throughput
Don't forget that Factorio worlds are infinite. We always get obsessed with keeping everything compressed and super space efficient, but in reality you can have a mile-wide gap between things so that if you every need to expand something, you have the room for it. I have my ore go into and out of my...

And then we might get the diesel locomotive to actually run off diesel.
As long as we get a steam train that looks really cool to go with it.

Re: Basic strategy for taking out biter nests?
What armour are you using? If you're running in with either nothing or a basic armour set you'll never last long enough to hit them. Make the best armour you possibly can, and then make modules for it. solar panels (fusion reactor is possible), batteries, shields and exoskeletons. That way you'll be...

Re: Reducing Pollution
Machinery produces it's own pollution (you can see the value on the right if you mouse over things) and you can reduce this using effectivity modules. These can reduce the power usage and therefore pollution by up to 80%. If you put three level 1 effectivity modules or two level 2s then it will redu...

Try messing about with the settings of this extra screen. I have an extra monitor acting as an extended display rather than a replacement, and if I want to play Factorio on the other screen I can just drag it over. You do encounter problems with full screen games when using an extended display, thou...

Letting them wait is literally the only way to prevent crashes, unless you synchronise the trains with mathematical precision, including track lengths.

You can use train signals to prevent collisions on crossings. I'll be making a tutorial on them some time soon and there's plenty of guides on the wiki page for trains: https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/index.php?title=Railway_network Also make sure to check the "Frequently requested ideas"...

Re: Splitting 1 out of every 6 items?
You could use multiple splitters, and then you just need to work out the fractions. The wiki page on splitters might be helpful: https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/index.php?title=Splitter There's a gif at the top showing how to split off every 8th. There are a bunch of other things you can try too. F...
