Re: Rail Upkeep
I would guess one of the main questions that has to be answered about a feature like this is: Is it fun? If rails randomly break and you have to ride or drive around and fix them, and the more of a rail network you have, the more time you have to spend doing that, it doesn't sound very fun. If that ...

Re: Friday Facts #227 - Rendering, Trees & Scenario talk
Please help us make the right choices in the graphics settings by adding more descriptive tool-tips and for every option! Yes! I can't figure out what half of the settings are or what effect they'll have except by tedious experimentation...and sometimes not even then. To add to the idea above: Have...

Re: Give pumpjacks mining range!
I think what you're REALLY looking for is an option to make pumpjack placement a bit more magnetic, so when you place over a single viable tile it automatically glues the pumpjack to the proper position. Oil patches do not overlap (That was a pretty early patch) so that means every tile of the patc...

Re: How to be warned of item shortages?
Note that the speaker can get annoying if it keeps going off...but you can set it to silent and still see the on-screen alert, along with a custom icon (e.g. iron ore) to know what's getting low.

Re: Additional roboport stat - number of charging bots
I was about to suggest this, but it looks like it's been suggested already. So, here's a second vote for this idea. It would be great to see how many bots are stuck waiting to charge so I can determine when I need more roboports in a more fine-grained way than just eyeballing the size of bot arcs ar...

Colored background for personal logistics request status
With a large number of logistics bots, sometimes there's a charging backup, and bots aren't timely about supplying my personal logistics requests. I can hover over any individual item in my personal logistics request slots to see how many I have, how many are on the way, etc. But that's a bit tediou...

Ultra-fast green belt with infinite research speedup
Since many people favoring bots over belts point to throughput as an issue, how about improving belt throughput with a new belt tier? Since yellow, red, and blue are used, this would be a green belt, which would be even faster than the blue belt. Furthermore, it would include an infinite research it...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Factorio should incentivize belts instead of punishing players by removing logistics. How about, in addition to adding the "green belt" (faster than blue belt) I mentioned previously, making it another infinite research item, where each tier of science (including rocket science) makes the...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
We have ideas like increasing the power consumption, decreasing the maximum stack size bots can carry to 2 items or buffing belts by adding a "stacked" belt tier. Increasing the power consumption? In my current 0.16.x game I have some 28,000 bots, and even though I'm still getting bot arc...

Huge Rocks for everyone!
TL;DR Always give the player a Huge Rock to start out with. What ? One of my favorite low-key new features in 16.x is the Huge Rock. 37.5 stone and 37.5 coal! Instead of chopping trees or planting your initial burner miner on coal, you can start smelting iron right away and get moving a lot faster....

[0.16.4] Player sprite disappears after locking PC
When I hit Esc to show the in-game menu (and pause the game), then lock my PC, then unlock it after a moment and resume play, the player sprite disappears. Repro steps: * Start a new game of Factorio, version 0.16.4. * Press Esc to show the menu and pause the game. * Lock the computer (Windows-L). *...

Re: Mining Drills will fill with water
How is this a bug? It might be undesired, but that doesn't mean it's unintended. A bug is behavior that the developers didn't intend. This seems like something they probably did intend, if you're silly enough to pipe water to your mining drills instead of sulfuric acid.

Separate train routes from trains
I suggested this in a FFF thread a month or so ago, but in case it got lost, and especially with the UI overhaul coming up, I want to post it here: Train routes should be distinct from trains. When you're setting up, say, a new ore-to-smelting route, you're setting up a route . You might have one tr...

Re: The von Neumann Thread
With my wooden box, mining became slightly less of a hassle, though I still had only one burner miner. I was able to leverage that single assembly machine to make a "burner inserter." It's like the electrical inserters I've heard other miner corpsmen talk about, but it can burn fuel direct...

"Sorry, HQ, could you repeat that last bit?" I was an experienced miner and techie, and I was ready for a new gig. Mining and construction had taken its toll, and I wasn't 20 anymore. There was word around the mining corps of new assembly machines that could take the drudgery out of fabric...
