Re: A Blueprint Printer - creating multi-purpose factories in a different way

Hey, we only need one "small" step. A blueprint printer. Everything else is combinators we design ourself.

Re: Replacing accumulators with hot water storage?

You'd be adding a new type of "burner" but by the time it is applicable most players will be moving to full solar. The next release will (probably) also have nuclear energy so you're trying to fill a gap that doesn't really exist. If you want more alternatives for energy you could look in...

Re: clock combinator

Tried that with my main power. Gave up because it needs too many accumulators to transmit 100+MW through them and I didn't have blueprints (nor the space for them). And every time you increase your power needs you have to add accumulators at the point where you split power networks, not for storage ...

Re: A guide to Night Steam with Hot Water Storage

Except I find the savings from using a dedicated day-store design to be significant. When you consider a 1/14/10 the "1" is fiddly and the "14" is parts intensive, the 14 is actually 14 boilers, 14 inserters and (perhaps) 14 belts. I've experimented a bit with belt free boilers....

Re: Replacing accumulators with hot water storage?

There was an electric boiler mod specifically for this purpose, but it has not been updated and I can't find it on the mod portal. This is really the issue. Storing hot water only really saves you on coal boilers. You still need the right amount of steamies to convert to electricity. With an electr...

Re: Replacing accumulators with hot water storage?

So really, 1 offshore pump->14 boilers->10 steam engines->2 small pumps->7 storage tanks->20 steam engines. Compare to the default setup of: 1 offshore pump->14 boilers->10 steam engines 1 offshore pump->14 boilers->10 steam engines 1 offshore pump->14 boilers->10 steam engines You are saving 2 off...

Re: One more Smart Furnace®

Nope, sorry . At first I had to check my assumptions and then post on the forum - it is my fault, somehow I forgot about electric poles and 3x3 beacon range. But, after trying this broken approach I managed to build smaller furnace block. Already updated original post. Well I expected that so...

Re: One more Smart Furnace®

Seems that I've missed the most obvious thing: instead of using 8 tiles per furnace (3 beacon + 3 furnace + 2 chest) I should use combined chests and this will give 6 tiles per furnace. Don't even understand why I did this thing for belt-based solution and forgot about robot-based. Combined chests....

Re: Rotating belt.

I noticed that a simple looped belt, an O, that is filled by e.g. a miner, will stop moving items when it gets full. I think the problem is that the turns compress the inner lane and expand the outer lane. So going into the turn the item has to wait for the inner lane to clear, which never happens b...

Re: Replacing accumulators with hot water storage?

A small pump is a valve. You can turn it on and of and it allows flows only in one direction. Recirculating is a good idea. I wonder if you can get a read on the water temp. Fill a tank with water and then circulate it through a boiler and back into the tank till it is at 100° (>98 because you will ...

Re: MP Desync issue - crc test failed??

After playing hours and hours with 2-4 players in LAN with multiple maps I run into this yesterday as well. No mods used at all and all identical version on linux. Actually all playing with identical laptops. One player got into a desync loop. Restarting factorio for that player did not help. Restar...

Re: A Blueprint Printer - creating multi-purpose factories in a different way

Yes, ine of many, no endless (!) thinkable setups. :) Other examples: Some kind of "wandering" setup is also thinkable ("wander" into a direction, until finds resources, then change into an outpost) as setups, that just clear a forest. You mean something like build a miner and s...

Re: clock combinator

But solar panels give out power and combinators need power to work. No power, no signal. Ahh, *light bulb going out* :). Didn't consider that. So a solar cell, a power pole and a constant combinator all isolated on their own power network will give off any signal wanted whenever there is enough lig...

Replacing accumulators with hot water storage?

I read somewhere else that you can store hot water in tanks for later use. Now I want to use hot water tanks as replacement for accumulators in the right ratio. You have solar cells providing power during the day. You have water going through boilers to fill tanks with hot water. You have steam engi...

Re: clock combinator

if there is need to turn off power for power hungry objects at night why not use single solar cell, small pole and constant combinator near it? As long as combinator not in range of other poles connected to power structure or connected to power network, you have day/night sensor. As said multiple t...

Re: Oil (overflow) burner

The way i handle the oil system is using the break down factory's which get toggled by a combinator if there is a shortage. For example the breakdown factory from benzine to gas get's toggled when gas is below 500 in the nearby tank. If benzine is lower then 500 the breakdown factory's get toggled ...

Re: Oil (overflow) burner

A steam engine will consume any liquid, even unheated. Whawawaaaaat??!?! I never even thought of attempting to feed anything but water to a steam engine. The thought never crossed my mind. You think that's crazy? Notice that a boiler also takes any liquid. You can drive a steam engine with heated o...

Re: Remove the loss of pressure as pipes get longer.

The pump limits the flow. That means you can use as many pipes before the steam engines and the pump will give back pressue so your network of pipes doesn't drain out all on the same steam engine. However you design to split the water it will split because it can't go out just one way.

Re: A Blueprint Printer - creating multi-purpose factories in a different way

I'm thinking of the following setup: - Type A printer contains a roboport, laser turrets going 2 ways building a corner and power for them and going to the inward corner. - Type B printer contains a roboport and a straight line of laser turrets and power for them - Type C printer contains just a rob...
