I think it is because there is no such balancing between tier-1 and tier-2 modules (and when you reach tier-3 mass-production - you are rich enough to not really care if it would be 4 or 5). I have noticed that DirectX applications are dropping to 20fps when you switch windows with Win-Tab (that is when they are shown as slides in 3D). So I think this problem is caused by Windows treating Factorio as background app when it's actually foreground.

I suppose case 4 is "expected" behavior if you bind thing like that to left-click, but will the game be usable? So in my opinion the bug is that we allow binding left-click to such activity at all.

That could easily happen if steam engines these boilers are connected to do not consume all the steam these boilers can theoretically produce.

My belts branch gives some weird results, and still not what you meant :) I will investigate why that happens.
Still, I am afraid to touch this logics because filtering items with splitter has become somewhat popular contraption, and this behavior has direct connection to it.

Each lane is split separately already. lefts to lefts, rights to rights. there is per-item-type stats to balance outputs, and logics (which had bug on sparse transport lines) to handle inputs. I will check your example to see why it behaves like this.

orzelek It's very desync-prone optimization, just because of how much stuff it touches. Not that many of them happened, I am just very scared of that, so belts optimization comes in only when all major bugs are gone, otherwise it will be very hard to tell what have caused just another problem. You should not expect this to happen again, such things are very rare (though sometimes they happen). If that happens again - please send another savefile. Fixing this one does not look easy.

Via shift-right-click / shift-left-click - yes, also works in map view. EDIT: issue has been fixed for coming release - clicking locomotive from map view will adjust color for that particular locomotive, not some random from whole train. Clicking cargo wagon will still adjust "random" loco...

Try this .exe - just curious. It has belts optimized, after loading it will stabilize within about 10 seconds. But I do not recommend to keep playing for long time with this version because you will not be able to load its saves from anywhere else.

Well, it's actually same behavior for train gui - some "random" locomotive receives color. I'll check into that.

One frequent problem with updates is that first 0.15.x update resets config, and particularly resets 'enable experimental updates' checkbox which renders further 0.15.x invisible to you.
