Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

I would rather see solar boilers. Hot water (any liquid) from solar energy. Nuclear power needs a new ore for fuel and what about the waste? Solar boilers.... Dunno. Electric boilers would seem good enough for me, I already have huge solar plants. As for nuclear waste - that has a certain, rad ring...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

Well, hard to answer that with anything other than "they are working on it". If it's any good indicator, nuclear power appeared in plans for 0.14 , just as it apprears in 0.15 + 0.16 roadmap planned features (this time alongside some 8-10 legs surprise in possible appearance - for which I ...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

One complaint is that turrets become pretty much obsolete as soon as laser turrets come out, so we will be manufacturing turrets only for science purposes. Re-balancing such that laser turrets aren't the end-all of defense would be nice. Perhaps a high-tech armor-piercing round that stands a chance...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

I could actually see FTL-esque PvP working on a basis of artillery wars, and it's more about who builds huge artillery shells faster than doing things with tanks and rifles and such. I mean, people are going to be turret creeping anyway, why not give them huge cannons that can fire all across the m...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

3. How about you address the monotony of combat instead - what this gane needs is an artilliery emplacement that allows me to destroy biter bases from inside my own compound - let it use cannon shells, it's not like we are going to want to put them in the tank is it ? Not sure on this one. On the o...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

Why, hauling 3 different liquids, silly :) EDIT: Well, the devs didn't find it as obvious :( In that case, hastening the load/unload process, using 3 pumps simultaneously. Plus, as we see here https://eu1.factorio.com/assets/img/blog/fff-159-liquid-wagon.png the tanks are connected, with some pump-v...

Not sure if the car fits the shape of the barrel, unless it really is a VW :D Better to use a storage tank, better still one that is full of light/hvy oil - Kill the biters AND un-bung your oil production chain in one fell swoop - now thats progress 8-) Ahh, I love the smell of oil in the morning. ...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

While we discuss possible PvP aspects of the game, I wonder about some more classical pvp-matches form and their possible implementation. Like, how would factorio version of "King of the Hill" mode look like...
And stuff like this.
Factorio Carts Racing, another one... :)

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

EDIT: Something that I haven't seen in this thread but that should probably checked for the PvP mode is how to deal with rails intersections between different teams. It's something I am not really concerned about. Stealing and exploiting another's infrastructure could be a fine addition. And rails ...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

So? Chaos is fun, fair is oftentimes repetitive and boring. Mix it up a little. You should care a little less about who wins, and a little more about how much fun the game was. You can have both order and fun. I've been on plenty of servers of various games where admins thought rules were arbitrary...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

alien artifacts -> pink sciences -> make laboratories produce alien plates out of them (with all the previous sciences as well) -> use alien plates in some end-game recipes that needs to be regularly crafted (ammo, blue belts, robots, upgrades, ...) this is better end-game use of laboratories than ...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

Some would say life is not fair too, but I see your point ;) But there is actually barely a way to prevent such situations, maybe constant on-screen display of team points/statistics, as it's done in Age of Empires series. EDIT: Depending also on map size, but we all agree here I think, 4 and more p...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

EDIT: Hmm, let's focus on one point (or rather picture) at a time, shall we? :) 1 - I don't think en-masse production relies on such "heavy" use of oil - first few pumps you place give - or were giving - a lot of oil, and you barely knew what to do with it. Sure, they degrade to certain mi...

(...)Which, I am in favor of renaming them test kits (red-kit, blue-kit, etc....). That. Would make a bit more sense. What does matter is the iron/copper balance. Please take care that it's not all iron heavy items (or all copper, you know what I mean). I have no idea, but I agree - I've depleted 5...

Re: Have Some Questions Before I Buy.

Think Sim City on an alien world. Can/will you create the technology for you to escape? Bah, why should I escape - because I smash some biters once in a while? Think about it - lush, pristine tropical world. A perfect holiday spot :D EDIT: Also a question - maybe someone will answer it, and let my ...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

I'd say two things about new science packs: 1) Engines eat less time, energy and management to procure than batteries, at time they start to be needed for science, which is good. I don't have to focus on science developement only, I can pick which way I want to go, science, or e.g. railways. I'm kin...

Re: Friday Facts #159 - Research revolution

2) Speaking of endgame and rockets - maybe you guys should add a Dune-II-inspired deviator-like (see image below) weapon, which is an upgraded version of a gas grenade that can be thrown on aliens to convert them to your force and have them follow you around (at least temporarily) - this could help...
