Obviously, with bigger trains, they move slower and make signalling and intersections more difficult to control, but they can move massive quantities over long distances. One modification I would do is to have the steel offload onto 4 belts that then lead into the balancer rather than just the 2 belts you have shown here. That way, the station can keep up with the pull of 4 full belts of steel.

I have noticed that the number of assembling machines for each Science Pack is less than those I've calculated are needed to produce at 1 per second. Can't see any disadvantages really. 1-1 trains will have same (that is maximum) number of inserters per car, will provide same belt throughput if unloaded separately, on different stations. Ok, we activated all of the mods on the server and unchecked the autosort of the main inventory in the menus. We were able to play for a few hours without a single desync.
