Being able to read the contents of the locomotives with the circuit network may also be useful. However, this should be disabled by default, because normally you are only interested in the contents of the train's cargo and not its locomotives.

Yes, it does provide an incentive to use circuit networks. But so would giving solar power the same priority as steam engine power. Since the Factorio developers have decided to automatically give solar power priority over steam engine power, so that the player does not require circuit network logic...

Yes, I agree with you that solar power should have highest priority, followed by steam turbines (nuclear power) and then followed by steam engines (boilers).

This suggestion would require a major change to the game engine, because it would require every single item to have an additional property, in this case to remember the temperature the liquid had when it was created. This would cause a significant decrease in performance and also would make gameplay...

Could the signal not be sent 1 tick before the train finishes opening? This would also only work for single combinator setups. After thinking about it a bit more, I guess tunnels could be implemented the same way as in OpenTTD . A train will never get stuck inside a tunnel, for example it will never break down (i.e. it cheats while inside a tunnel). In Factorio, this would be equivalent to a train never running out of fuel ...
