The loaders aren't actually in the game. The devs decided to not add them. Well technically they are in the game, but they should be hidden by default. Curious how you managed to see it?

For me ts probably the rail building, mod portal, better multiplayer connecting, and the underground pipe and conveyer placing like power poles. That one will be amazing and make running long distance piping anyway easier.:D

Typically I find it works well to put Productivity in the machines like you mentioned, and speed beacons around it. You could go all Speed, but I think you would then have throughput issues for your main resources to keep up.

Unfortunately it looks like you'll have to use a mod or two to get over to the mainland. I would suggest either the Landfill mod which lets you fill in water, or perhaps the Aircraft mod that lets you build a plane so you can just fly back and forth from the island to be mainland. :)
