Re: 0.16 Strategy: Bus Belt Shift instead of Belt Balancing
I've actually been doing this in my bases recently. I've been removing balancers and instead shifting the items to the right-most lane of a belt. It seems somewhat buggy right now though. It seems like belts decompress very slightly when using "priority" features. Balancers of old preserve...

Re: Any performance reason for blue belt to be at 40/s?
There's also the fact that blues have an even 40/second. I see blue as the standard, reds as 2/3 and yellows as 1/3. If anything should change it would make more sense to nerf yellows to 10 and reds to 20. Unfortunately, bots are better and belts need a buff. Under no circumstances should belts get...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
I've been experimenting with my train system recently. Currently I'm looking at the potential pros and cons of *mixing LHD and RHD* together in a single train system. The original idea came from the fact that most intersections have very short/easy turns to one side, while turns to the other side b...

Re: Any performance reason for blue belt to be at 40/s?
Blue belts are nowhere near that level. You secured a big chunk of iron ore and some oil, you're good to go and you should take the plunge earlier rather than later. When you start getting t3 assemblers sounds about right. Nowhere near endgame. Fun fact: changing the t2 assemblers and belts of a bu...

Re: Any performance reason for blue belt to be at 40/s?
Only true in the endgame. The "endgame" has to start at some point. The endgame is roughly the time when you can afford Productivity3 modules in every machine, and every smelter. If you aren't at that point, you need to accelerate and grow your base faster. Using red-belts and yellow-belt...

Re: Any performance reason for blue belt to be at 40/s?
In my experience, blue-belts aren't worth it until well into the post-game. Red is already expensive at 11.5 iron per tile for only 26.6 items/sec. This is 7.66x more expensive than yellow, for only 2x the performance. Blue is 31.5 iron per tile + lubricant for 40 items/sec. This is 2.7x the cost f...

Re: Loaders?
Immediately we already have an issue if you're going at max speed of 3.7 blue belts per wagon ... That's 7.2 blue belts of output. How do you possibly manage to balance 7.2 belts without a balancer? The way I would do 3.7 turning into 7.2 is have the incoming train offload 6 balanced belts. Split t...

Re: Loaders?
That's why you balance the belts at the ore patches. You probably don't have ore patches with 24 blue belts of output so balancing there is much simpler. Doing 4 belts for a mine, balancing that and then loading into 4 car wagons works fine for me. I was talking about the smelter, geer factory, cir...

Re: Loaders?
Note: The 25 belts thing was stating a fact. Not challenging your math. You need to challenge my math so that you can understand it. You need 17 belts to the trains . Bonus points: 17 is a prime number, you can't split it up into a smaller set of multiples. No. Because no amount of belts can handle...

Re: Loaders?
4. To elaborate on point 3: bots may be able to be space-efficient in a small area, but they require more infastructure by way of roboports and power - especailly by way of solar panels and accumulators if you claim "power is free" 5. Bots require more resources to set up, including robop...

Re: Loaders?
Can anyone answer why loaders would be better than allowing 2x Stack Inserters to fully compress/consume a belt? It's the lowest effort solution if the devs can't change inserters that way because it is already in the game and just needs some polish. I agree. If loaders were added in say, "Log...

Re: Loaders?
Can anyone answer why loaders would be a better than allowing 2x Stack Inserters to fully compress/consume a belt? Inserters have swing time and there's no getting around it, so they will never compress a full belt. But you could have 2 stack inserters fully compress a single line. This is already ...

Re: Loaders?
You calculated I need 25 blue belts. Lets make that 24 green or purple belts so it is exactly one belt per train wagon. In Bobs each train car will carry 8000 iron ore per wagon (less in vanilla but that doesn't change anything). So each belt gets exactly 8000 iron ores unloaded. How can that ever ...

Re: Loaders?
Note: I see you have roboports enabled. Ever tried playing without them in Bobs? The robot chests seriously cut down on the rate bots leave when needed or return when idle. Don't wask me why but the chest seem to be limited to one bot per open/close while the roboport just streams them out 1 per ti...

Re: Stack Inserter Drop Stack Onto Belts
It'd be a huge QoL buff to belts. I mean. Not really? You're taking a pretty easy task (filling a belt) and making it even easier. That's all fine and dandy but assemblers are hardly plagued by output issues. The standard recipe takes a large number of input ingredients and generates a tiny amount ...

Re: Stack Inserter Drop Stack Onto Belts
Stack inserter Chest to chest: 27.7 Chest to belt: 12.2 The first 3 items move quickly enough, but now it has to wait 9 more slots to unload the rest. That wait time makes it only work at 44% speed attempting to saturate a belt. You can work around that without much difficulty thanks to the devs ma...

Re: Stack Inserter Drop Stack Onto Belts
bobucles, that is not the suggestion I'm making. See my above comments on "stack belts". The stack should stay in place on the belt and the belt would move items out from under it, exactly the same as when an Inserter drops an item into a too-small gap, but instead of 1 item at a time it ...
