Re: Friday Facts #223 - Reflections on 2017
Barrels are now useless >.> Barrels are fine. Barrels may be fine, but they ended up becoming a workaround for the higher flow requirements for larger factories and power plants. The fact that folks could barrel / transport / unbarrel faster than the practical/usable flow rate of pipes highlights t...

Re: Friday Facts #223 - Reflections on 2017
Barrels are now useless >.> Barrels are fine. They just have a lower capacity now so you have to scale out a bit and treat them like the other resources. I’ve moved to a belt-based loading / unloading system instead of having bots cart them from the station to the refinery. It’s actuallu kinda inte...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
I might have to be enlightened. I have heard a lot of comments like “the community clearly feels...” or other variations of this based on content in these forums. Unsubstantiated statement. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, as someone once said. Fair enough. I don’t have the time to...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
Also, in the holiday spirit I should probably mention that as far as solutions go, I rather prefer having two separate fluid cars. One with a single tank, and one with three isolated, individual tanks. I think most of the logic should already exist for this. However, it does require a lot more code ...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
Entirely possible on both accounts. I’m kinda running on NyQuil... so ... /shrug
Edit: haha! So ... order of arithmetic is often important. :: cough ::
And if I missed the point of the commentary about substantivity, well I’m still blaming that on the NyQuil and I might have to be enlightened.

Re: Fluid wagon and barrels balancing
50 and 25k (for the tanker) seems balanced. Yes this is not bad. I hope that belt with barrel will still compete vs pipe for the effort to put a liquid in barrel. And we need two belt one to move the barrel full and an other one to bring back the empty barrel) I will still use tanker for mining U o...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
I have heard a lot of comments like “the community clearly feels...” or other variations of this based on content in these forums. It’s simply not a good indicator of the overall player base. That is all I’m saying. Unsubstantiated statements aren't the best way to counter unsubstantiated statement...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
Moreover, the very fact the the devs have created a forum for an alpha game, that includes polls, tells you quite clearly that it is a tool that should, at least, be considered. Further to this, what point is there, even if there is no hope at all of any change, in objecting to a discussion about i...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
I must say I find the people (2 in particular) rudely trying to shout down this discussion to be in very bad taste. What is the problem with discussing it? Obviously, like yourselves, people have put many hours into their factories and would like some closure, if nothing else, on why their factorie...

Re: 0.16 Fluid wagon separation feature removal POLL
In my opinion, if these reflect the trends in the community, this goes to show that the decision to cut it outright wasn't a good solution. At least not properly thought over by the team. Since you are interested in polls, I feel compelled to point out that these forums are a *signifigant* minority...

Re: Friday Facts #222 - Christmas avalanche
And while it flies in the face of euclidean-space logic, the player can carry even more barrels than a train can, and with the right modular-armor inserts, can travel nearly as fast as a train. If the devs are to nerf anything because of releastic space constraints, then all the item stack sizes in...

Re: Version 0.16.0
Resources are much more spread apart. To compensate, patches are larger. Since it's easier to mine, the amount of resources on the map is 3 times less. Resources scale slightly less over distance. No uranium as a starting resource also no uranium is ever generated near the starting area, you need t...

Re: Friday Facts #220 - The best Friday Facts ever
Becasue my taxi trains have a cargo wagon of frequently used resources, (walls, bots, turrets, poles) that refills at the main base. And my normal trains around base are something like 2-4 (or 2-4-2, depends) and a royal pain to drive manually. I have construction trains serving the exact same purpo...

Re: Friday Facts #220 - The best Friday Facts ever
I wonder, is there a reason why you devs don't give us artillery turrets with larger range, but suddenly you throw that monster at us? Because a train car with an artillery launcher wins? Much more satisfying than artillery turrets. :) However I now want to build my railroads to anticipate more tha...

Re: Factorio Friday Friday Facts #203 - Logistic buffer chest
Imagine you are manufacturing ammo somewhere in the middle of your base and putting it in a passive provider and it's distributing from there to requestors all round the perimiter. You notice there is a big latency to this process on one side of your base so you put a buffer over there to cut the l...

Re: Friday Facts #189 - Specifying the 1.0
Hmmm. If you use "set filter" on a standard purple filter inserter, it can unload up to five types of needed goods. The filter is only set to a good if it has a positive value in the circuit network. So as long as your chest doesn't fill up a single inserter should do it. Loading is trick...
