Re: gun vs laser turret balance: play around with range

I don't see the need. Gun turrets are in my bases the "last line". Everything the lasers haven't managed, the gun turrets will do. They have much more firepower and don't need electricity, if you use burner inserters and feed them with a belt half coal, half magazines. Much more needed: S...

Re: gun vs laser turret balance: play around with range

There's numerous discussions all over the forum about how gun turrets pretty much become obsolete once laser turrets are researched. Now it appears that the new spitters outrange gun turrets (https://forums.factorio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6356), but likely won't outrange laser turrets. A...

Re: FREQUENTLY SUGGESTED IDEAS

So, you say that this thread is both for frequent suggestions, and widely endorsed suggestions. Thus on the subject of an idea that, while hardly a frequent suggestion, did seem to be well liked would Large Bridge Cranes fit into this thread?

Re: Forum proposal: Multiplayer

Proposed new sections: A section for discussing the new aspects of the game with multiplayer. A section for getting in touch and play. I don't think the first proposal has much merit as such discussion seems likely to fall off eventually as people become more familiar with multiplayer (and as there...

Re: Eclipses

Also, one more thing that would add to the game would be to have the amount of pollution affect the output of solar panels on top of this randomization. So if you had a ton of pollution and plopped down a panel in the middle of your factory, it would lose say up to 80-95% of it's output due to all ...

Re: Burner inserter should take the first coal itself

So you covertly sugest, that burner inserters should always reserve the last move for refuelling? Sounds useful and reasonable I guess... Depends on which items the inserter actually grabs. Does it take fuel with priority when it's slot is empty now? PS: This self-refueling seems bit too mechanical...

Re: Eclipses

Thought: If the eclipse lasts only a minute or two, whats to stop players from combating it by increasing accumulator storage? If it's a reliable schedule, all you'd need to get power through it with solar is enough solar panels to charge up over the ten day interim period and enough accumulators to...

Re: Some items becoming "useless" in lategame & changing rec

I disagree with your assessment of, and proposal for, burner inserters; When I fuel boilers, I find myself using burner inserters exclusively. My opinion is that the lack of utility for them and boilers stems mainly from the fact that solar panels desperately need to be rebalanced. That said, that's...

Re: splitting the lets plays into another board

Speaking as a man loathe to allow a new subforum in unless clearly necessary, I have an alternate proposal: Why not use another forum that already seems to have a fair population of let's plays to host let's plays? Right now "Spread the word" is primarily about discussing news and promoti...

I'll say November 15th because pessimism is good for the heart. :P

But being a little more serious I'm, with the "we have all of eternity" crowd. The update will get here when it gets here and there's so much else to do in the meantime.

Re: Friday Facts #55 - MP Preview

Is voice chat sent over the Factorio server? Actually, is there any in-game communication system? They're pretty clearly in the same room; At 1:52 the mouse points to the map and the other knows where it is pointing so we know they can see each other's screens. I wouldn't expect in game communicati...

Re: Solar Panel return on investment

I would add time as fourth limiting factor. - time - space - resources - energy/work (fuel is only a subcategory of that) Everything else is dependent on those four limiting factors. I would posit that energy and work are subcategories of time. And also that time is (currently) the most flexible of...

Re: Solar Panel return on investment

So turning solar panels into other ways to heat up water for steam engines..I kinna like that..and I've had a similar thought on the idea of solar collectors. In fact almost the exact same thought. Though I was thinking a 'water tower' type thing..that solar panels could link to (IE aim the sun at)...

Re: Solar Panel return on investment

To add a new thought, perhaps the problem is not so much that solar cells don't need mantenance as that they lack complexity. The "fire and forget" aspect removing some of the game's puzzle aspects. If, for example solar collectors worked not as photovoltaics but instead as a solar-thermal...

Okay, as someone who thinks that having more than one mode of operation per vehicle is a bad idea, how about this solution to shooting while driving under the proposed system: If the W and S keys move you towards and away from the mouse, respectively, then the the A and D keys should move you perpen...

Re: Request to switch News and Update Name on Forum Page

It bugs me that when I click on news, I get sent to threads about the latest updates, and when I click updates, I see the FFF's, in other words, news. Does anyone else feel this way? It bothered me for a few months but honestly, nowadays it just strikes me as being a pair of witty subtitles away fr...

that'd be to much automation imo, think of it. just put like 10k roboports blueprint with electric pole's (Small,Medium whatever) and there u go, just set-up all oil on the map and there u go, automation for like 200h+ Im sorry I thought this was Factorio, The game ABOUT automating everything. Re: Gun turrets have higher power requirements than laser tu

Unless I've made a mistake here, your calculations are off. Despite it's real life function, a laser is a projectile weapon that fires in discrete bursts requiring approximately 200 kJ per shot. A laser a maximum upgrade will deal 11 damage per shot. (I have no idea if firing speed upgrades affect p...
