If you could walk on pipes in Factorio, would you build less underground pipes?
Or do you think underground pipes look prettier?

Re: Friday Facts #189 - Specifying the 1.0
What happened to dirty mining? D: That's the one single feature I've wanted since the first few times I've played Factorio! Same. Problem with devs stating that "mining productivity research seems to be solving the problem" is that despite all the tech you can get, your mining procedures ...

Re: Friday Facts #189 - Specifying the 1.0
I think there should be a middle ground between having to automate things that you really need and having to automate things that normally have to be produced in relatively small quantities. One solution is to make a major research overhaul in form of being able to make a specialized science pack pr...

I agree. Putting eveything underground isn't aesthetically pleasing either. See pipes.

I found a problem. Namely, the the science pack production has stopped, the production icons for research packs don't show up.

Map scrolling speed slider would be useful option.
Currently, when you are scrolling your map with arrow keys, it's often too fast, especially when trying to place down blueprints and other ghost buildings. Would be nice to have an option to scroll slower.

Research graph similar to production graphs to visualize research speed over time.
It would be nice to see how fast the research has been made over the minutes and hours, just like there are production and electricity graphs. For...umm...research purposes. Maybe, when looking at longer timescales, there would be icons on a graph to show when something was researched. In addition, ...

Steel bars are named steel plates.
For an item that's named "Steel plate", it definitely looks more like a bar or a rail.

The "Dirty mining" mechanic could be good way to make it so that in biterless world, the best option wouldn't be to go as far away from the center as possible.

It doesn't really discourage mass hand crafting. Remember: you can only craft one item at a time while all the machines together can craft thousands.

Add a logarithmic display option for production/consumption graph.
If you look at production graphs, you'll notice that majority of lines in the dynamic graph representing objects tend to be near the bottom and often it's hard to tell them apart. It would be nice to turn on/off a logarithmic graph so it would be easier to see them.

Suggestion: Do not implement the planned changes to the next version. Just get the existing features done.
Currently, the scale of the update is at the level that whatever you do, it will still probably be riddled with bugs.

Re: Friday Facts #177 - Difficulty settings
If there's a difficulty setting for tech then I think you should also include harder difficulties with more complex tech trees. Anyway, I think the main problem and cause of delays is usually classic mistake for developers: trying to take out a bite that's too big and in the end, it will still be re...

What about making every item in the game aside from the rawest products so that it could be used as science packs? However, every type of item could only be used to produce a certain science pack. Show total number of items in inventory when placing structures (not stack number).
For an example, when playing conveyor belts, you only see the number of belts in the stack you're holding and it disregards any other stacks you have. Would it be better to show all the belts so you know when you're running out of conveyor belt?
