Re: Whats the stance on griefing ?

I have been wrongly put on a community-curated ban list before, and I would be interested to see what sort of measures you would put in place to make sure it will not be misused. In my case it was because some kid decided that my username was too close to his, and called me out for attempting to im...

Re: Discuss: Power Switch should not "Blink"

Creating a S-R flip flop out of combinators is somewhat counterintuitive. Beginner players, especially those without a background knowledge of electronics, will probably not know about or how to make such a thing and will either just let the switch flutter as it does or give up on using it in that w...

You spotted the delivery boy.

Those large groups will either go offensive if a pollution source is nearby, or will travel across the land to spawn new biter nests.

Re: Lazy Bastard Achievement - No hand crafting challenge

I just got the achievement with exactly 100 items. Firstoff, I used the provided furnace as a chest for the burner drill. This made it possible to fairly easily mine several stacks of coal right out of the gate with only a little patience. Great time to cut wood for future wooden poles. Then I had t...

Re: Best way to defend

Iron Curtains are effective. Build walls backed by turrets such that the biters cannot get near your stuff without getting shot at. You don't even have to cover 100% of it, and it helps a lot to abuse natural choke points like lakes. Long as the biters cannot reach anything without getting shot at, ...

Re: Are trains useful?

Trains are super useful! Especially once you go beyond a hundred tiles or so. You can easily make a train to carry multiple items in each direction with just a little cleverness of inserters and combinators at the endpoints. For instance my iron ore train right now also carries 4 stacks of coal to r...

Re: Why virtual reality got so high requirements?

Because interacting with reality is hard.

We take for granted how easily our brains can do it.

But to date, no computer can do it even half as well as we do, and they need a ton of energy and computing power to do so in a timeframe even remotely close to our perception of realtime.

Re: [Rseding91] [0.13.0] Power switch causes power log to be lost (?)

I can confirm this problem exist in 0.13.3 Playing on singleplayer Maybe the powerswitch need to have a high and low threshold. If it connects and disconnects at 50% then power spikes will probably make it disconnect and reconnect multiple times. So a high and low threshold would probably help redu...

Re: [0.13.3] [Oxyd] Biters will not attack/path through wall of trains

How is the train refuelled? This actually looks like a startlingly valid defense, but only if the trains remain in perpetual motion because a means of fueling them has been provided. It's not useful, because the giant train makes this base run at less than 60 fps even with nothing else moving. I do...

Re: We're being invaded!

The solution I usually use with good results on the forums I host is that the first 3-5 posts a new user makes must be approved by a moderator before appearing on the forum. Though it does add a little overhead in getting new users established, it almost totally shuts down such spam operations becau...

Re: We're being invaded!

I reported a couple such threads earlier and they were cleaned up fairly quickly. Hopefully the moderators aren't all asleep at once. Seems like better anti-spambot measures are needed. You know, that could be a fun mod. Adding 'spambots' to the game, that just fly around pretending to be helpful wh...

Re: Tree clearing with construction bots

I usually just ram through it with the tank when making roads/tracks/powerlines. To actually clear cut an area, I do exactly what you do with it. And I have my power station rigged to use wood, coal, and fuelblocks in that order. So all that unwanted wood that ends up in my inventory becomes steam p...

I dunno, but I like it. That could be a useful map for someone who doesn't feel like exploring much and wants to worry more about getting resources than fighting off biters or finding those resources

Re: Jobs

C++ is fun. I usually use it on embedded stuff, when I don't feel like savoring the madness that is assembly. It really lacks a lot of the convenience libraries found in other languages though, which make it require a fair amount of prep work to do more than interacting with hardware and basic tasks...

Re: Is there a Herobrine in Factorio?

Wasn't Herobrine originally a glitch? That became an event mob of sorts, and then a meme used as the minecraft equivalent of gremlins.

I'd just as soon not have anything like it- I do enough damage by myself to the workings of my factory.

I'm still tank creeping for the most part. So I drive around in the tank because I am squishy and don't like dying. And from the relative safety of the tank, perform turret creeping. But my laser turrets are in a line- 6 turrets with a substation in the center. And they are cased in walls to shield ...

Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup

Here's how I set mine up. Each row is a complete 1:14:10 arrangement, containing 14 boilers, 1 accumulator, and 2 pumps each driving 5 engines. I use a dedicated 'pilot engine' to power these pumps, which is itself controlled by a variation of the liquid op-amp posted in another thread. For fuel, a ...
