Re: Normal engine unit can't be hand crafted
Real life engines aren't handcrafted either, and never really have been. They've always required machinery to achieve the necessary component alignments and accuracy to operate properly. On the other hand, the steam engines rightly need that same sort of equipment. But small steam engines made out o...

Re: Locomotive thoughts
Do you know that the diesel engine runs also with old wooden poles? Or wooden chests? :) Or rocket-fuel? :D Grind it into a powder and anything that has an auto-ignition temperature within reach of the diesel engine's compression can ignite and consume it. Interstingly enough, diesels with airblast...

Re: Locomotive thoughts
I explain time and time again that you can make a diesel engine that burns coal. Prior to diesel fuel becoming a thing, diesel engines were built using a variety of different fuels. Among them, coal dust. Some of the early diesel engines used coal dust with airblast injection to achieve a running an...

Re: Make trains pull Coal from adjacent carriages if possible
Its fairly trivial to reserve slots in one of the train cars to have the train store a supply of coal for use down the road. Then at a distance where you know it is getting low, have it pull into a siding where it can transfer coal from the car up to the locomotive before proceeding. Usually these r...

Re: Multi-purpose (smart) logistic chest
This is similar to the cache type chest I've been asking for on a regular basis. The current structure for chests doesn't allow supply and provide in the same chest without the bots 'shorting out' like they do if your autotrash is set lower than your request. Of course the real fix for that might be...

Re: Allow excess liquids to pass through Chemical Plants
The only change of this nature that I would like to see is that ports with the same fluid type are internally piped to one another. So for instance a battery-making chemical plant, if I hook one input to the acid supply I can then have an underground pipe from the other acid port go across my base t...

Re: Establishing a Perimeter
Just put radars up at regular intervals along the perimeter, that way you can see incoming attacks as well as scanning the interior for possible breaches.

Re: Information on why things are failing!
hmm..does nobody put a backup DNS address for when their primary is having problems? I use DynDNS, but when it can't be reached my IP configuration is set to use my ISPs DNS server as a backup. I didn't even know there was a problem until I heard about it in the news, and I am online pretty much al...

Paypal is also down due to the attack.
So is twitter.
I've heard that Google DNS and OpenDNS were being targetted as well, with users of these public DNS services facing poor or no connectivity.

Re: Setting Lazy bastard achievement to bare minimum
I know, some room is pleasant, in case you craft something "by mistake", but it's like when playing belt challenge, and in case you REALLY don't know, you can use bit of water. For me, it takes away the challenge, especially when 99 is a bit tricky. You have a stone furnace, which you can...

Re: No graphics card needed
Most CPUs these days contain an IGP as part of the processor, which is sufficient to run most games that aren't graphically intensive.
Should be able to run Minecraft as well, I've run it on quite a few IGP based machines without issue.

Re: Setting Lazy bastard achievement to bare minimum
The achievement allows some room for error because it isn't exactly obvious what handcrafts are required and what aren't. So you are given a few extra handcrafts above the absolute perfect in order to speed things along and in case you get in a bind and handcrafting one thing would be an easy fix. I...

Re: Hash for 0.14.7
Where did you download it from? There shouldn't be any sort of malware in Factorio obtained from the official distribution channels, and if there ever was the community would be in a gigantic uproar over it. Also, MD5 is well known to be unreliable for identifying file integrity because of how easy ...

Re: [0.14] Reactors
Finally perfected the combinator logic I had been working with most of the weekend with an arrangement that makes use of the external shutdown signal added in 1.4.3 This arrangement expands on the setpoint control that I use with my coal fired steam in order to make it so that the reactor will cycle...

Re: roboports signals should not be exclusive
Likewise I see another thread talking about filtering the outputs- could merge that thread into this one. The problem is then: Each roboport needs to add the signals internally before he can provide it to any network. That is CPU intensive and a problem if you need to do that for all roboports. And...

Re: roboports signals should not be exclusive
Its inconvenient in some situations to not be able to access the bot network statistics while reading the network contents and vice versa. Since bot statistics is already taking place over signals instead of item symbols, it should be possible to output both modes at the same time. Likewise I see an...

Re: Poll: Offshore Pump Should Need Energy
Also i want to mention with my idea it would be possible to do a redundant powersupply for your electrict coal mining drills. That would actually make the game easier :P Good point. :) But redundancy could also be, that you have nuclear energy and as reduntant energy still steam engines. Or - as no...

Re: Poll: Offshore Pump Should Need Energy
Possible alternative solution: Eliminate the offshore pump in favor of a water intake that has no pumping capacity at all, and has to be connected to a pump to produce any significant output. Then you pair this with the following pump arrangements: 1. "Steam Powered Pump". This is effectiv...

Re: Different types of Logistic Networks
So what you are looking for is more along the lines of a network identifier functionality that allows logistics networks to overlap without them merging. This could be useful in more than a few applications I think, each roboport would have a user configurable network identifier for bots that it has...

Re: Turn off / on tanks, devices, transfer between tanks
I'm thinking this thread needs to be moved to general discussion, since it sounds like you've got quite a few gameplay issues here. Firstoff, have you explored the circuit network? This is how you control your devices, making them start and stop as needed instead of running till they either run out ...
