Re: [Rseding91] Mod Portal Download use %20, Game Requires Spaces

The link you provided says it was written in 2005 which means it's super outdated. Is not, RFC3986 the is current one, otherwise there would be a "Obsoleted by: number" somewhere at the top. If a browser can't handle a simple file download without mangling the file name that's the browser...

Re: Belts vs Bots, here is my 5000 SPM belts-only megabase.

So how many SPM is this if I played with all set to normal? The technology multiplier just makes research more expensive in number of science flasks, it doesn't make the flasks themselves more expensive, so the x10 multiplication you did to your SPM isn't right. About expensive mode, the difference...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)

(...) A previous poster showed a great little mockup of item stacking on belts. https://webmshare.com/VGWYj https://i.imgur.com/VqbSwxF.png I'm surprised it doesn't get more love because it's a very simple and effective solution. It gives late game belts exactly what they need to compete with train...

Yes you can, you need to wire a roboport and pick what you want, the items in network or the robot counts.

This was discussed many times. The electric network works the way it works because of performance reasons, no way around it.

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)

Now back to topic. I really think just comparing peak throughput of optimal bot network with 4 blue belts is looking at only part of the picture. - What's the investment to create both setups in terms of resources ? - Can we also have a look at the power consumtion of both setups ? That wasn't peak...

Re: Intel CPU Design flaw

I said pretty much exactly that. I was talking about if there is a fix for Spectre as the person I quoted seemed to indicate I might have misunderstood when I read about it. I checked again and indeed spectre is actually not simple to fix in general, perhaps it meant the fix for specific and known ...

Re: Belts vs Bots - A response to the latest FFF

So now, in order to do the same task, you're forcing me to use circuits with my belts? What is with people wanting to push their subjective idea of fun onto others? So now I would have to construct an elaborate sushi train to perform the same task? Why is my subjective way of enjoying the game bein...

Re: Version 0.16.16

And I can give you at least one non-intuitive downside to old splitter function. Intuition says that you should be able to send a loaded red belt into a splitter and get two loaded yellow belts out (being that they are half the speed) and have full throughput - but that wasn't how it worked, and I'...

Now the splitter will not split compressed belts into left and right lanes, fixing that is for the best. The magic sorter was unintuitive and nobody knew how to make one without a blueprint.

Re: Shouldn't unmerging a belt be as simple as merging it?

It's easy to make coffee if you have hot water and roasted, ground coffee beans. Not so easy to split that coffee back into the dry grounds and the hot water. And if you know you want pure hot water later, you probably shouldn't use all of it to brew coffee. Without using analogies, unmerging belts...

Re: Belts vs Bots - A response to the latest FFF

~snip~ Bot bases are reduced to rows of assemblers flanked by beacons and roboports. ~snip~ This is actually not the fault of bots, but rather of beacons and modules and how they currently work. The result of their current mechanics is that there really is only one optimal layout for endgame produc...

Re: Belts vs Bots - A response to the latest FFF

Since Factorio is predominately a creative & problem solving game, it comes down to player preference. Right, but I disagree that balance is a small consideration in Factorio just because there's no competition, when there's a mechanic that is a one-size-fits-all solution and is simple to use i...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts

Right now, many people play with the intent of creating a mega base. The majority of players don't aim for that, is just that mega base builders are overrepresented in the forums and Internet in general. To achieve a mega base, there is only one viable way to do it, and that is with bots. People ha...

The underground belt graphic doesn't help, by looking at it you would agree that it should block all lanes.

The flaw exists in AMD and even ARM (and therefore mobile phones) as well and they will need the same OS workaround: https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.de/2018/01/reading-privileged-memory-with-side.html There's two different vulnerabilities, Meltdown is the one that affects all Intel chips and som...

So, let me preface this by saying that I read all 15 pages of this thread, those that post stating that didn't read it have my eternal damnation. I use logibots a lot but I agree that they trivialise a lot of the logistics in the game, buffing belts sounds like a good idea but I think It wouldn't c...

Re: Please allow mining drills to store at least ONE ore! :(

The problem is that the mining drill stops mining as soon as the drill can not release the ore to the belt. Wouldn't that mean that you have some backpressure? Drills do store one ore though, if you rotate a stopped drill it will release 1 ore in the new spot before resuming drilling, is just that ...
