I feel ... unclean ... but you can get good use out of this.

Re: [15.34] get_trains() doesn't return wagon-only trains
I had a humorous expression of amazement and gratitude at the consistent responsiveness here, but I think I'll just go with "thanks for being so consistently responsive over such a long stretch."

I don't think I was ignoring the evidence backing the complaint, I think I was offering a correct explanation of that evidence. [15.34] get_trains() doesn't return wagon-only trains
This causes inconsistencies in mod state when a map is reloaded or a mod is added to a map, and having to postprocess the results of find_entities_filtered seems crude and redundant and error-prone, since discovering all the variants isn't at all trivial. To see it, /c script.on_event(defines.events...

Add blueprint bot's pictures as an attachment option?
Reddit /u/demodude4u has a really outstanding blueprint-picture-generating bot, see its latest results at /u/BlueprintBot, for instance
.
Any chance you could incorporate that into the forums?

Re: [0.15.23] inserter waits too long
Perhaps you forgot assemblers stop requesting input when there's two recipes' worth in the output buffers? That assembler's crafting speed 4, and that's a half-second recipe. You need more output inserters, because it's doing three or four recipes per inserter swing. 4×3×2=24 copper cable/sec, one i...

Re: [0.15.23] inserter waits too long
If you set an assembler up with full input buffers and supply chests, empty output buffers and enough properly-staggered output inserters, set the game speed to 1/30, and watch what happens frame by frame, you can see that this problem doesn't exist: the loading inserters pick up a hand and deliver ...

Re: [0.15.23] inserter waits too long
My best sustained green-circuit output from a single Bob's-mod A6 is 362/5sec, using nine perfectly-ordinary input inserters and three circuit-staggered unload inserters. The A6 never stops.

Re: [0.15.23] inserter waits too long
I think the most important takeaway from this thread is that the title problem _doesn't actually happen_. OP shows his inserters waiting to pick up a large quantity from a slow belt before delivering. That's a setup problem: don't pick up a large quantity from a slow belt when response time's a prob...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Assuming the score ratio between my demo on my box and on tbterra's holds for the maps DaveMcW posted, his clocked-inserters(-and--no-chests) setup should score about 95 and produce more plates/hr than mine, which would make it the runaway winner. edit: holy crap, that clock-noise-isolation trick is...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Lol I couldn't let this rest. There's a construction ghost in the "squeakyclean" upload, a smelter's missing. Correct that construction fault and the design instantly locks on to the original behavior. I usually run with personal bots even in creative mode, but didn't for such a simple hah...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Just read through this thread and I'm loving the timer solution. Before this, I had been trying to fix the problem by using slower inserters. I sent in two new versions, one using red inserters (which almost exactly use their full stack bonus without external input) and then another making use of t...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
And the smelters aren't close to keeping up with the miners anyway, everything past about 200% is a waste. Don't know how it happened, I already used the quantum-physicists excuse but hey, if anybody can be responsible for multiple problems at once, it's them, right? Anyway, I've got a .squeakyclean...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
When I show the debug timing data the game update cycle hovers at very roughly 1.3ms clocked, 1.7 if I cut the feedback wire so the inserters are always enabled. So going from 3/12 touches to 14/12 touches per plate adds about a third, an inserter swing is _expensive_ on this scale. I wasn't expecti...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Gaahhh, there's just barely too many trains in that one, leading to naive-station-selection logjams after running fine for a long while. Here's a fixed version with one less train:

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Okay, here's an entry I think will do reasonably well, it scores ~57 on my box. It's a straight proof-of-concept for the clocked inserters. quyxkh.clocked-inserters.demo.zip p.s. I'm not trying to win any prizes here, if anyone wants to incorporate these into their own entries, well, that'd be neat!...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
quyxkh: your attached map dosnt seem to contain any timmered inserters. are you sure you uploaded the correct one having said that the idea of keeping inserters asleep until they can get a full hand, is really interesting. it would be interesting to see how much difference it makes for the differen...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
My bot-fu is … not so good. My designs can't play in this league. But I do have this to offer: when I started using 6-second-clock stack inserters to unload my smelters, so they got 11-12 plates per swing rather than 1-3 for various unclocked unload inserters, I got a >10% overall speed boost (91k m...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)
Well, let's see how this stacks up. I expect it'll be middle-of-the-pack, it feeds ore directly into smelters and loads the plates directly onto the train from there . . . hmmm. I think I know how to make it faster, but here's my frist cut at it:
