Re: Belt rebalancer is not your friend
Uh... rebalancers are always going suck when they use the same speed belts as what they're processing from and are restricted to a limited size. Well, traditional one sucks even if it's in full blue on yellow belt. It loses less throughput, but still can't keep up with the straight yellow belt. The...

Re: Belt rebalancer is not your friend
I nominate this ugly bastard: http://i.imgur.com/6iBTweX.png (when you absolutely have to balance your belt evenly) It has 100% throughput http://i.imgur.com/CZNzbPD.png Variant: http://i.imgur.com/T6sZh3Y.png It has same 100% throughput as his ugly brother above, but more aesthetically pleasing. Re: Belt rebalancer is not your friend
Well, rebalancing pattern is not so pretty if things are on the other side of the belt
So, the place for the perfect rebalancer is still vacant

And finally... 2 splitters, separate (the spacing in between is not necessary) Rebalancing pattern: http://i.imgur.com/cAzXjO2.png 1 side: http://i.imgur.com/PTuUWQy.png 2 sides: http://i.imgur.com/wG571Ll.png Rebalancing pattern is as good as of common rebalancer, but no throughput loss at all.

Re: Belt rebalancer is not your friend
Can you do the bottom test again but with the belt rebalancer as 2 splitters therefore cutting out the U-bend on the one side.. I doubt much will change but I always wondered.. maybe make it a 4th lane so you can compare it separately.. Tested 2 more rebalancers: 1) "Overkill" http://i.im...

I measure relative throughput, thus the length does not matter.Lee_newsum wrote:

Belt rebalancer is not your friend
All-right, after doing some quick tests for the Faster belt corners thread I switched to other save and built proper test facility. We have 3 very long and 100% compressed belts. As soon as I power up the system, inserters start collect copper as fast as it arrives. Throughput is limited by the bott...

Re: Faster Belt Corners
By the way, just noticed that common belt rebalanced causes BIG loss of compression. I didn't make tests, but by the looks of it ~30+% of the throughput is lost at the rebalancer.

Did some tests. Yellow belt with fast turns vs yellow split & rejoin. Competitiors: http://i.imgur.com/3fjjMcyl.jpg First run: 183:186 214:222 Split & rejoin wins. Test track http://imgur.com/1LpGKqd All inserters receive power at once and start packing coal as fast as it arrives. I cut powe...

Re: Faster Belt Corners
According to the article, yellow belt with "fixed" corners still not as good as straight belt.
674-683 vs 719 respectively.
I wonder if splitting and rejoining after making the turn gives better or worse results.

Re: Why having everything on a belt is a bad idea
I also shaked the head about putting copper cables on the belt. :) The lack in throughput for green circuits could be already seen in the last video... But well. I think he tries to think in categories of newbies: They like this "all on a belt"-idea. I see that a lot, they really like it....

Re: Faster Belt Corners
The burden on the player for not understanding or noticing belt throughput being limited by corners is not huge. It's like, 10% at a guess? According to this calculator, corners steal 35% of your throughput. That means, if you have two lines of 9 steel furnaces each, feeding off the fully compresse...

Re: Faster Belt Corners
And that's what corners in belts actually mess up, causes the effective capacity of the belt to drop In other words, if belt is 100% loaded ("compressed"), it will deliver more items per second to the destination, if it has no bends. Let's call this number x . By the looks of it (just a r...

http://i.imgur.com/xPwoV1Hl.png The game would not load beyond this message, thus mod manager is inaccessible. I know how to disable mod manually, but for some less experienced player it could mean a whole lot of frustration, as the mod is embedded, and can't be deleted like any game-breaking third...

Re: learning AI
I was just about to make a new thread named 'Hive mind" with the same suggestion. There should be another pollution-like layer that adds pathfinding cost for biters. Whenever biter dies to turret fire, danger level of the tile rises (and slowly dissipates). It will make biters probe the whole p...

Wow! Awesome design, thanks!DaveMcW wrote:You can make it more compact.
btw your inserters might steal things that are not quite intended for them. I ran into this issue in my early prototype, fixed it with additional spacing (perfect place for power pole btw)

My next playthrough: persistent world
For my next playthrough I want something more challenging - to play in a persistent world. It means that the time would not stop when I'm not in the game, and my character will stay in the game world when I'm not "online". I will not be using save files (apart for the purpose of being able...
