Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Wireless Charging
Well unless you get the devs to change Portable Fusion Reactors to be more expensive, you should use them as baseline for how expensive alternatives to them are. I'd love to see a progression from diesel to electric with charging to electric with fusion power. If I add wireless charging to my exist...

Re: Fuel consumption of trains at max speed
You are right, max_speed is redundant and seems arbitrary compared to the values of weight, power, power efficiency, friction, drag. 600kw feels way underpowered for a locomotive reaching 260km/h, making max_speed less of a speed limit and more of a speed boost. Did you do the math as to what speed...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Wireless Charging
Well yeah, I sort-of hate the portable fusion reactor. It is a one-time investment with infinite return and completely trivializes all the energy management for vehicles. I wish it didn't exist or at least had some form of half-life, or other form of limitation. So if you add the mod to an endgame f...

Re: Fuel consumption of trains at max speed
The way I see it those 259.2km/h are the max speed they are capable of. It makes perfect sense for an engine to use 100% power when pushed to it's limit. Again, if they where to introduce speed limits your idea of engines throttling back and using less power makes perfect sense. Let's assume a spee...

Re: Fuel consumption of trains at max speed
I was under the impression trains simply go full throttle all the time until their weight (which isn't currently calculated properly) prevents them from accelerating any more. If we added speed limits, your proposal would totally make sense. There is a speed limit. Diesel locomotives are limited to...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
So, all kinds of combinations of adding and removing the transformer, replacing the vehicle, etc. did not solve the problem. What did solve the problem was removing and replacing the [3rd party modded] energy shields. Not sure how that happened (and it explains why my unshielded trains were fine), ...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
So this is how I intend to change the recipes: removed battery from low voltage transformer removed accumulator from high voltage transformer locomotive and car now take only one T1 speed and efficiency module each high power induction rail/station no longer need an accumulator For one electric loco...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
So it turns out it's true that locomotives consume power at full rate even when cruising at top speed. I opened a thread in general discussion to see what people think of this viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32476

Fuel consumption of trains at max speed
A bit of background: I made the Electric Vehicles mod that converts energy stored in batteries of a vehicle (car/tank/locomotive) to fuel its internal buffer. The electric locomotive my mod adds has a 1MW max power, compared to the diesel locomotive's output of 600kW. Both have the same top speed. S...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
I agree that the fast coils are supposed to be expensive. The fast charging should come as a price. Charging a train using the slow coils works realistically slow. That seems ok. The main thing bothering me is that you have need an expensive train, and still stuff it with expensive coils, batteries...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
What should also completely reset the vehicle logic is taking the transformer out, picking up the tank, placing it down and putting the transformer back in. If that doesn't help then something is totally broken.mknejp wrote:That shouldn't happen. Can you provide the save so I can take a look?

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
- You appear to be unaware that the fuel-to-electricity conversion rate is 50% in this game. 8MJ of coal produces 4MJ of electrical energy. So, if you are powering both trains off the same combustion power source, the electric train consumes 3.3 times more fuel per unit time than the vanilla. That ...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
1st, a bug (?) -- I loaded up my game with version 0.2.3 (lib 0.2.2). Transformers aren't accepting electricity (bar is empty) in tank and car; still works correctly in train. They used to before I updated. Try re-equipping them. Haven't seen this happen yet. 2nd, I agree that the trains are a litt...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
That would be nice. Although I personally avoid non-symmetrical trains anyway. It's not just about single-headed trains. If the game understands that the electric locomotive can pull in both directions than your double-headed trains become twice as powerful. I can't test this yet. Could you tell th...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
I also think that the train is a bit heavy to build. Very neat, but expensive. But it doesn't seem to have the drawbacks that current electric vehicles have, like charging time and range. If you want drawbacks, you can always have cheaper less powerful trains that can only support light coils and o...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
Didn't you say that it can't go reverse in automatic mode anyway? Automatic mode pathfinding doesn't make single-headed trains go reverse. It is something I would like to be able to do because all modern locomotives can go both directions at full power. Ok, thank you. I thought you were talking abo...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
You can reverse train by hittin R button with the cursor on it. Even while in motion. That's all great and everything but useless in automatic mode. Please, listen to me. Currently it has only drawbacks without any significant benefits. You didn't name any benefit yet even after me asking you. Curr...

Re: [MOD 0.14.2] Electric vehicles
I mean with some lower tier parts equipped the train's max speed without wagons is around 50 km/h. What am I doing wrong? The low voltage transformer is only for the car. There's a reason why the high voltage transformer is unlocked with the same tech as electric trains. The item descriptions say w...
