An idea to make them more useful would be to allow coal burners (just them) able to be loaded directly from a belt pointing in their direction, then you can automate on coal power alone.

Personally I hate when devs make first class and second class citizen by creating a restricted test group. But I am fine with a bleeding edge version as long as it is open to everyone.A word of warning however: for a small team will become extremely time consuming to process the feedback from a test...

I think you can fetch some of the path finding code (or just ideas) out of spring rts game engine, already supports multi level path caches, dynamic terrain, basic jam resolution and is proven to be quite fast - games with thousands of units are common.

the central bus design scales better if you make it a side bus, so you can expand the bus on north and the factories on south

it happens to me as well on windows 8
seems related to where the pointer is; if it crosses a resource or the inventory bar a pick swing starts.
