Re: Who needs walls anyway? This... is... Spart....Spidertron!

Your concept is inventive but it also depends heavily on stationary defenses. I tried to protect my base with automated tron patrols only against new biter nests. After manually clearing the defense area with trons, trons would loop fully automated on patrol routes continuously and terminate any new...

So how do you build a "tank farm" to store large amounts of liquids? ...
I build them in a sequential setup as well.

pump-tank-pump-tank-pump-...

I know that this works as expected.

Re: Fluid System - multiples

Sure. What elludes you, is that the fluid system is the result of at least 3 attempts of getting it right and behave nicely. But the implementation of a simulation of real world fluid mechanics was and is a beast. I resided to use only sequential fluid setups, never parallel ones. With parallel ones...

Re: Lua or something else?

My prefered solution would be: - A c++ modding API - Strict guidelines and rules what libraries are allowed, what pre-compiler and compiler to use and how they must be configured. - A build server provided by the studio. Only source-code can be uploaded to the mod portal. That way you can test build...

Re: Fluids are killing me

To be more precise: Advanced oil processing (AOP) is killing you. The hidden problem you are struggeling with is, that the recipes around AOP mathematically form a set of linear equations. But don't worry! I just mention that term in case you ever want to dive deeper into it, which is not required. ...

Re: Factorio Vanilla Long Distance 2,5x Pressurized Water Using a Single Pipeline/Pumps (3000 Fluid/sec)

You can increase that to 12000/sec if you use only pumps. Just needs more power.

https://wiki.factorio.com/Fluid_system#Pipelines

The basic question is, when is transporting by train more cost efficient and less of a construction hassle and when is transporting by pipes.

Re: Lua or something else?

I think I remember that Rseding was very critical towards LUA in an Q&A a few years back. I tried to find that interview again but failed. No, I found it ( https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/6w3z5i/developer_qa/dm5fzu8/ ). FactorioAddict: If you could go back in time and develop Factorio...

I'm definitely in favor of a big expansion, it's an excellent way to continue funding the game, without the hassle that dlc's become. As a fan of Paradox games I am thoroughly sick of dlc's lol.
Paradox' dlc policy really turned me away from their games, which I otherwise liked initially.

Re: Dyson Sphere Program

What Deadlock wrote is a real turndown for me. (Having a swarm network, that just does everything by itself? Nah thanks.) I am very receptive to the opinion of people who showed some thoughtfulness and analytical skill regarding game mechanics (also yours, eradicator - I read your opinion on Factori...

Re: Sci fi novels and factorio?

... want to point out, that I didn't like ... the expanse (starts awesome (Leviathan wakes), gets worse soon (in book 2 of 9, I read until 6, I should have stopped earlier)). I feel you. I also thought "enough is enough" after book 6. I don't know if it was the story in 5 & 6 or if it...

I could not disagree more. That is the perfect recipe to create a clutter everyone hates in the end, even the devs (it is explained in the FFF why they don't want to make a lot of small DLCs). With a single expansion, there will at least be one group of people, who like it.

Re: Friday Facts #365 - Future plans

I have to say, I am really glad Wube hired Earendel. Why? Because Earendel is exactly my taste for an additional game designer for Factorio. When I read the threads "What is next for Wube" and "Factorio 2" I thought: "Hire Earendel to plan a new expansion. Earendel showed so...

Re: Sci fi novels and factorio?

Ooooooh SciFi. My most beloved novel genre. My personal top list: - The Forever War (the pre-sequel Forever Peace is also pretty good, but something entirely different and far down on my best-of list) - The Three Body Problem trilogy - Inverted world - Existence If you like scifi operas: Reading The...
